TRUTH IN GOD’S WORD
When one chooses to be with specific people, often the selection is to be with FRIENDS and FAMILY. There is a common bond which is pleasantly shared. This bond includes present pleasures and blessings, along with future hopes for each person. In the Spiritual realm, the old hymn is sung, “When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!” Those who seek that eternal home enjoy time together here in this life, with the hope of the place that Jesus has gone to prepare (John 14:1-3).
On August 30, the Belington Church Of Christ will be sharing a Friends & Family Day. Bible classes for all ages begin at 10:00am, with worship at 10:50. A fellowship meal will be shared afterwards next door. The invitation is offered to all who seek that heavenly home.

TRUTH IN GOD’S WORD
In John 17, Jesus offered a lengthy prayer, often focusing on the UNITY of His disciples. His words included, “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me” (vss. 20-21). The apostle Paul wrote concerning all people (both Jew and Gentile) in Ephesians 2:16-18 “And that [Jesus] might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.” No racial or doctrinal divisions, but Spiritual UNITY is found in Christ’s church.

TRUTH IN GOD’S WORD
The New Testament describes Christians who “rejoice” (Strong’s No. 5463, to be cheerful, i.e. calmly happy or well-off; to be well, to thrive). This is the manifestation of inward joy in spirit.
When the Ethiopian heard the preaching about Jesus by Philip, he faithfully obeyed the gospel, was baptized, and “he went on his way rejoicing” (Acts 8:39).
For Christians, the apostle Paul penned, “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4). Notice that this blessing is only found “in the Lord.” Such is not found based in this sinful world.
While some seek to “party” in search of “rejoicing,” there is nothing well-off or prosperous in such living. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can provide the true source for rejoicing.

TRUTH IN GOD’S WORD
Merriam-Webster defines the statement “‘All or nothing’ describes an uncompromising approach or situation where the only acceptable outcome is total success, complete commitment, or achieving everything desired. There is no middle ground, compromise, or partial success allowed.”
Keep this in mind when viewing the words of Jesus in Mark 12:30, “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.” (bold mine) This reveals two important points to consider.
First, it is “all or nothing” with God; partial dedication will fail, resulting in failure to please Him.
Second, God must be the Number One Priority in life, or all other priorities will fail (Matthew 6:33).

TRUTH IN GOD’S WORD
“Religious fellowship associations are non-denominational
or cross-denominational organizations that unite
individuals, churches, or ministries for worship,
discipleship, community service, and vocational support”
(www.google.com). If such “fellowship” exists, why not
simply eliminate all religious divisions and unify as one
body? Obviously, doctrinal “fellowship” DOES NOT exist
among such groups.
The New Testament word “fellowship” (Strong’s No. 2842,
partnership, communion) is found many times. True
fellowship must be in “the apostles’ doctrine” (Acts 2:42),
the mystery of the one true church (Ephesians 3:9-10), the
gospel (Galatians 1:5), and in the light of Christ (1 John
1:7). Fellowship is not toleration, but UNITY in one body

TRUTH IN GOD’S WORD
Does the church of Christ believe in the “trinity?” While
the actual word “trinity” is not in Scripture, the description
definitely is. A “person” can be seen, or heard, or
identified. The three persons of the Godhead: Father, Son,
Holy Spirit, are described individually at the baptism of
Jesus. Matthew 3:16-17 describes, “And Jesus, when he
was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo,
the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit
of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And
lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in
whom I am well pleased.” All three individual persons of
the Godhead are identified in this passage. Other Scriptures
could be referenced, but these suffice to prove the point. In
Christ was the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

In contrast to much of the religious community, many
claim “the church of Christ does not believe in the ‘Sinners
Prayer’ in order to be saved and become a Christian.”
As the book of Acts is often called “the book of
conversions,” not one of the inspired examples include the
sinner’s prayer being taught or practiced.
Some refer to Romans 10:13 (which quotes from Old
Testament prophecy), “For whosoever shall call upon the
name of the Lord shall be saved.” The question is, does
“calling upon the name of the Lord” mandate a sinner’s
prayer?” Again, not one example is found in Scripture.
The Bible is its own best commentary. Ananias told Saul of
Tarsus, “arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins,
calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22:16). No prayer.

TRUTH IN GOD’S WORD
In comparison to much of the religious community, “Why
does the church of Christ observe the Lord’s Supper every
Sunday, instead of monthly, quarterly, or bi-annually?”
The Lord’s Supper is observed in remembrance of the
suffering and death of the Savior. “The Lord’s Day” (i.e.
Revelation 1:10), or the resurrection day (the first day of
the week, i.e. Matthew 28:1), is a special day. The church
was established on Pentecost (Acts 2), which always fell on
Sunday (Leviticus 23:15-16).
The New Testament example is seen in Acts 20:7, “And
upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came
together to break bread…”. Paul waited a week for this
occasion, since no authority for an earlier observance is
given. Each Lord’s Day, this observance was held.

Our nation accepts the Declaration of Independence (July
4, 1776, 250 years ago) as an authoritative document of law
and liberty. In a similar (Spiritual) way, the Lord Jesus
Christ provided “the perfect law of liberty” (James 1:25).
Why do churches of Christ reject creeds, etc.?
First, the Will of Christ is not to be altered. Silence of the
Scriptures authorizes nothing (Acts 15:24). Neither does
anyone have authority to “pervert” (Galatians 1:7) or
“wrest” (2 Peter 3:16) the Scriptures. A lesson found in the
inspired Word of God reveals that man cannot add to, nor
take from, the inspired Word (Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs
30:6; Revelation 22:18-19).
If a creed is more than the Bible, it’s too much; if it is less
than the Bible, it’s not enough; if it is the same, man does
not need it. The Bible is understandable (Ephesians 5:17)
