The initial services were held in a theater building and an old store building across the tracks from the present building. Later years were held in the Belfry Grade School. The Belfry United Methodist Church became a separate charge from the Stone United Methodist Church in 1956. Special services marking the opening of the church were held September 30, 1956 at 3:00 PM. The District Superintenden

t, Homer L. Moore, delivered the principle message. Through the past 60 years, the church has been served by the following pastors: Rev. E.K. Meyers, Hawthorn Burgraff, Charles Elswick, Julian Slimpson, Charles Ratliff, Clifford Isobell, W.L. Trout, Harles Ray, and Micheal Stanley. Each in his own way contributed to the growth of the church. Through their efforts over the years, the Belfry United Methodist Church is a vital part of the Belfry Community. Paul writing to the Corinthians states, "According to the grace of God which is given to me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth on it. For other foundation can no man lay than that which was laid, which is Jesus Christ"(1 Corinthians 3:10-11). Upon this foundation Paul established many churches throughout Asia Minor. Afterward, Paul left the church in the hands of the people who continued to build upon this foundation, and they grew in spite of the hardships and persecutions. The church continues today, as God's people labor together to build God's Kingdom. The church of tomorrow depends upon our commitment and faithfulness to live out the Great Commandment and Great Commission. It is my prayer that God will give us grace to be the wise builders that our forefathers were, so our children and grandchildren will have the opportunity to worship and experience the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Michael Stanley, Pastor)
