How great is our God?
LIFE ITSELF BEATS TO A SEVEN DAY PATTERN OF WORK AND REST
Modern research keeps uncovering something the Bible declared from the very beginning. The living world is tuned to an incredible seven day rhythm. Scientists now call these patterns circaseptan cycles, but Scripture has proclaimed the seven day structure of life since Genesis. These rhythms are found in plants, animals, and right down inside our own metabolic, hormonal, and neural systems.
One stunning example comes from a so called ancient alga evolutionists claim is five million years old. The elegant mermaid's wineglass, Acetabularia mediterranea, is a single giant cell shaped like a champagne glass. When researchers place it under artificial cycles of light and darkness with random lengths, this tiny cell still manages to measure time according to a seven day week. No matter how they change the environment, the cell keeps a built in seven day clock. Even the simplest organisms cannot escape the pattern God set at creation.
Scientists also find this seven day rhythm pulsing inside the human body. Blood pressure rises and falls in a seven day cycle. So do the acid levels in our blood, our red blood cell counts, heartbeat patterns, oral temperature, female breast temperature, urine chemistry and volume, and the balance between important neurotransmitters like norepinephrine and epinephrine. Even cortisol, the stress handling hormone, climbs and drops in a measured seven day pattern. This timing comes from the inner logic of life, not the rotation of the earth or the movement of the moon.
Researchers have observed these same circaseptan rhythms in rats, flies, plants, and countless other creatures. Yet the evolutionary model has no answer for the obvious question. Why seven? Why would a so called primitive one celled organism follow the same cycle as a human being? Why does every corner of biology rhythmically echo the week of Genesis?
The answer is exactly what Scripture declares. These seven day cycles point to a common beginning. They reveal common design. They proclaim a Common Designer who wrote His own pattern of work and rest into the very heartbeat of creation.
