Do you know for certain that you have eternal life? Only you can honestly answer that question. What is eternal life? The Bible says in John 17:3, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
Interesting definition, don’t you think? Eternal life is not the result of a plan or a program. Eternal life is the result of knowing a person. That
person is Jesus Christ! The invitation of Jesus into eternal life was simple. He simply said, “Follow Me” (Matthew 4:19; 8:22; 9:9; 16:24; 19:21; Mark 1:27; 2:14; 8:34; 10:21; Luke 5:27; 9:23; 9:59; 18:22; John 1:43; 12:26). Who is this Jesus who offers such an invitation? Jesus is God who became a man (John 1:1; 14; Hebrews 1:8). Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, by which He bypassed the inheritance of original sin (Matthew 1:23). Jesus proved this by living a completely sinless life (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus died for our sin when He gave His life on the cross (1 Peter 3:18). Jesus was buried in tomb following His death on the cross (Luke 23:50-53). Jesus was gloriously raised from the dead (Luke 24:1-7). How do we properly respond to follow Jesus? We must agree with who the Bible says Jesus is (John 5:39). We must agree that we have sin that is keeping us from a personal relationship with God (Romans 3:23). We must agree that the penalty for our sin is great (Romans 6:23). We must agree that it is due to our sin that Jesus died and rose again (Romans 4:25). We must heed the call of Jesus to follow Him (Revelation 3:20). What is the result of becoming a follower of Jesus? Your sin is forgiven! (Psalm 103:12). You possess eternal life as the gift of God! (Romans 6:23). You become a brand new person! (2 Corinthians 5:17). You are declared righteous by God! (2 Corinthians 5:21). You become a child of God and possess the power to live the life of righteousness! (John 1:12). You will have a full and meaningful life right now! (John 10:10). You will spend eternity with Jesus in heaven! (John 14:3). Is Jesus calling you to follow Him? If so you need to repent of your sin and turn to Jesus (Acts 3:19). Notice, we repent by turning to Jesus…by following Him. One can turn from sin but not turn to Jesus. But one cannot turn to Jesus without turning from sin. Repent…turn…follow Jesus. We follow Jesus by faith (Ephesians 2:8). We express our faith by confessing Jesus with our mouth (Romans 10:9-10). Simply cry out to Jesus, “Jesus, I want to follow you. You are God who became a man! You died on the cross for my sin. You rose from the dead to prove Your power over sin and death. I turn to You for salvation. I confess You, Jesus, right now as My Savior! I receive the life You offer me. Thank you Jesus! Praise You Jesus!”
