Friday's Food for Thought 🤔 đź’
Sanctuary Family;
Today's Friday's Food for Thought is important to all of us. Living in condemnation is a spiritual death sentence and we all have to understand that God is our judge and not the devil or us! The devil wants us to live in condemnation and we know ourselves all too good and we begin to agree with the devil that we aren't good enough for God's divine grace, mercy, blessings and favor to flow in our lives. Let me do my best to help us all understand that no matter how bad we've been, no matter how hard we struggle to be good, and no matter what the devil and ourselves think about us, God through His only Son Jesus, has made us worthy of His grace, love, mercy, blessings and favor no matter how rough we are!
How were you first impacted by Jesus? Was it through His grace in your life that touched your heart? We all began our relationship with Jesus because we were impacted by His love and grace in the worst times of our lives. The bible reminds us, "let us then continue in that grace." Paul warned the Galatians against turning back to the law after beginning in grace. He said, “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace [unmerited favor] of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ” (Gal. 1:6–7). Paul takes this very seriously and we should too. He calls any gospel apart from the gospel of grace (God's unmerited favor) a perversion. If we forget grace and start attempting to be justified by our works it causes a perversion of the gospel of Christ. We are saved by GRACE THROUGH FAITH, and not of anything we can do.
Paul asked the church in Galatia point-blank, “Did you receive the Spirit by your works that made you good enough, or by the hearing of grace through faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit of grace, and are you now being made perfect by the weak and frail works?" (Gal. 3:2–3). Paul was saying to them, "You began by believing in His grace, why are you now depending on your works? That is foolishness! You should be continuing in His unmerited favor!” These are strong words by Paul that we should be paying attention to 2,000 years later.
Don’t start with grace and end up with depending on working your way into heaven. Don’t start with the new covenant, only to turn back to the old covenant! There are those who say that they are not justified by the law, but believe that they should keep the law for sanctification. That is correct but we can't forget, both justification and sanctification come by our faith in Jesus' finished work alone. When we are established in the new covenant of grace, we will experience a tremendous sense of confidence and security in Christ. When our confidence is in His unmerited favor and not our performance, we will not feel as if we are constantly jumping in and out of His favor and acceptance. It's awful to live the roller coaster life with all the ups and downs and twist and turns that come with depending on being good enough for God's grace.
It is unfortunate when we put handcuffs on ourselves by allowing the devil to continue telling us that when we mess up or when we fall short, (which we always will), we're not good enough for God's love and grace and He is mad at us and withdraws His favor. Living on this roller coaster causes us to feel that God is on our side when we're good, but at other times when we're bad, we feel that God is far away from us. Sometimes, we feel that God is satisfied with us, but at other times, we feel that God is angry with us. How crazy is that kind of living?
All these feelings are based predominantly on our own evaluation of how we have performed, how we feel about ourselves, and not how God sees us. Because there is no scriptural basis to evaluate ouselves like that, we end up deciding if we deserve God’s blessings and favor in our lives or not, when the truth is, we actually have access to His blessings and favor all the time, simply because of Jesus and His finished works at the cross.
Today, I want us to think, talk and act knowing that it is not about us or our works—it is about Jesus and Him alone, and step out into His blessings for us! What a joyful life we can live if we choose God's grace, love, mercy, blessings and favor, over condemnation!!!
Love you and can't wait to worship with you on Sunday.
