Dear Friends,
This Sunday we celebrate Trinity Sunday, a yearly celebration to mark what, I think, is one of the greatest mysteries of our Christian life: the doctrine of the Trinity, or one God in three persons, known as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Wrapping our heads around the Trinity can be hard . . . how can God be three persons? At once? All equal yet diverse? It makes no sense!
Instead of trying to fully explain the Trinity, sometimes I think it best to celebrate it as an unfathomable and beautiful mystery. God’s love and reality are vastly larger than my finite human comprehension. The Trinity makes real that God is not some isolated or distant presence, but a community of three persons eternally bound in mutual love, rooting our faith life in beautiful relationality. God's triune nature demonstrates what perfect love and unity looks like, without sameness or hierarchy. For Christian communities, this functions as a model of inclusivity and belonging amidst diversity, and shows us what mature love can look like.
Celebrating the Trinity each year invites us to renew our commitment as a church to work for deeper connection, dialogue, and love for the world, which we know is so needed during this time.
We hope you will join us this week to mark this important - yet mysterious - feast day!
In Christ,
Rev. Molly+
