The BIC came into existence in the 1750's in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania near the town of Marietta. Since that time, the BIC has spread across the United States and Canada. Brethren in Christ Churches can be found in more than 23 countries around the world. To make these churches easier to keep track of, the BIC churches of North America are divided geographically into eight subdivisions called

conferences. Each conference is headed by a Bishop who oversees the progress and administration of the churches within his jurisdiction. Patterson serves as the Bishop for the Allegheny Conference which is currently made up of 44 churches in a quad-state area which includes Western Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia.

The end of 2025 is fast approaching, and BIC U.S. is looking ahead to a new year and as is customary, the Week of Prayer and Fasting will be observed January 4 – January 11, 2026.

Meet Jacob Lougheed!
Jacob joined our General Conference Board this summer as a member at large. He first came to the BIC in 2001 when his father became the pastor of Hollowell BIC in Greencastle, Pa. He has a heart for helping young people realize their potential and holds a master’s degree in education from Wilson College. He currently works as a social studies teacher in Maryland. He and his wife, Kelsey, live in Greencastle, Pa., with their two children. In his free time, he enjoys family, traveling, the outdoors, and cheering on the Maple Leafs.
