At the Wednesday General Audience, Pope Leo XIV reflects on the Church’s mission to be at the service of humanity by engaging with reality and getting involved in the challenges of our time.

Pope Leo was continuing his reflections on the documents of the Second Vatican Council by reflecting on the 1965 Pastoral Constitution ‘Gaudium et Spes’ (meaning “joy and hope”) on the Church in the modern world.

Thursday, Morning Prayer

The word of God says in Psalm 143:8:
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.

We begin this Thursday Morning Prayer In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the gift of life and of the new day. Thank you for your unfailing love and for protecting us through the night. As we step into this Thursday morning, we surrender our plans, worries, challenges, struggles, anxieties, and our schedules into your hands. Grant us the wisdom to make the right choices and the courage to face any challenges that come our way.

Merciful Father, we come before you today, acknowledging our shortcomings and our need for your grace. Have mercy on us according to your steadfast love. Forgive our sins, remove our shame, and grant us the strength to overcome our struggles. Take absolute control of all that comes our way today and forever.

May this Thursday bring us good news, answered prayers, divine protection, unexpected blessings, and reasons to rejoice.
May you establish the work of our hands, bless our efforts, that this day may be a day of breakthroughs and a day of testimony for us.

Your word says in Psalm 55:22, "Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved."

Father, we call on you today to give us the grace to succeed in the journey of life. May your grace take us to another level of success, breakthrough, opening doors, upliftment, and God's favours.

Father, establish the work of our hands, bless our efforts, that this day may be a day of breakthroughs and a day of testimony for us.
Give us the grace to locate our helpers. May our helpers not refuse to grant us the necessary help that we need to take us to another level.

Lord, bless and protect your people against any form of setback and untimely death. May you free us from sickness, afflictions, diseases, and accidents. May your grace speak for us where our strength cannot. May your mercy locate us, your favour distinguish us, and your blessings overflow in our lives and families.

Your word says in Psalm 118:17, "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord."

My husband, wife, children, family members,P and loved ones shall not die without fulfilling their God-given destiny.

May this day be a day of divine testimony and restoration, where all that has been taken or stolen is restored back to us in hundredfold.
Bless everything we lay our hands on today, that our efforts throughout the day will not be in vain.

Your word says in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Father, we pray for more of your blessings that we may be a blessing to those we will come across today.

Holy Spirit, be our Teacher and our Guide. Open our eyes to the Truth and help us see your movement in our lives. May we receive the blessings of fruitfulness, abundance, and favor upon our lives and families.

May the blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ continue to intercede for us at all times especially at the moment of our needs.

Lord, we entrust this day into your hands through your guidance Angels. May our angels' guidance direct and watch over us today, that we may not walk in darkness.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for answering our prayers and petitions through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Wednesday, Evening Prayer

We begin this Wednesday Evening Prayer In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The word of God says in Psalm 4:8: In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Heavenly Father,
We come to you this Wednesday evening in prayer to thank, reverence, and appreciate you for the countless blessings you have lavished upon us today. Our hearts are full of gratitude, and trust.

Lord, we pray for your mercy; wash away our iniquity and cleanse us from our sins. We pray for a new spirit, a new mind, and a new heart. Renew us in totality that we may walk on the path of righteousness and holiness of life. (Psalm 51:1-2).

Father, we ask that you guide us toward success in all our endeavours in life. May our efforts and hard work not be in vain.

May the blessings of God locate us unexpectedly, transform our lives to a high level of achievement, and may our lives become a testimony that will inspire others in our generation.

Your word says in Isaiah 43:2:
'When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.'

Father, see us through every challenge, anxiety, emotional stress, and family difficulty. May the Lord heal every hidden pain in our hearts, wipe away our tears, and fill our lives with peace, joy, and unending favour.

Lord, for all that has been lost, we pray for complete restoration and renewal. May your loving presence envelop us tonight, shielding us from harm and surrounding us with your peace.

Father, we come against every bad dream, demons that operate at night, all the located kingdoms of darkness in high places, all the strong men and women. We come against their operations tonight. May their gathering be scattered by the authority of Jesus.

May the breath of the Holy Spirit envelope us tonight. Remove every fear, nightmare, and anxiety away from us. Refill us with your peace, joy and unfailing presence.

May the Blessed Virgin Mary intercede for us and lead us ever closer to your Son, Jesus Christ.

May your holy angels of protection and guidance watch over us, ensuring our safe passage into tomorrow. May their presence around us be a safety assurance for newness of a new day through Christ our Lord.

The ceremony took place at the Saint John the Baptist Church (San Juan Bautista Parish) located in Hagonoy, Bulacan, a town just north of Manila.

🇨🇳 The Chinese Communist Party is tightening restrictions on Catholic life, with reports of Bibles disappearing from church shops in Shanghai and Beijing, pilgrimages being blocked and churches facing new restrictions.

A Catholic priest outside Beijing told worshippers that a planned July pilgrimage had been canceled because new rules required government approval for organized travel to churches in other regions, permission that was described as extremely difficult to obtain.

St. Ignatius Cathedral has also stopped admitting tourists this year while citing renovations, although worshippers can still enter through another entrance.

Catholics have additionally reported restrictions on religious broadcasts and Shanghai funeral homes stopped permitting Catholic funeral rites in August.

Human Rights Watch reported earlier this year that Chinese Catholics face increased surveillance, ideological controls, travel restrictions, and pressure on churches.

He said the Catholic Church was 200 years behind the times. Nobody got to read those words until the day after he died.
Carlo Maria Martini was born on February 15, 1927, near Turin. He joined the Jesuits at 17, was ordained a priest in 1952, and became one of the Church's leading biblical scholars, earning a doctorate at the Pontifical Gregorian University.

In 1979, Pope John Paul II named him Archbishop of Milan, putting him in charge of Europe's largest archdiocese, roughly 5 million Catholics. He became a cardinal in 1983. Over the next two decades, he built a reputation as the Church's most prominent voice for dialogue with a world it kept losing touch with.

By the 1990s, many considered him the most likely successor to the papacy itself.

In 2002, a rare form of Parkinson's forced him to retire and move to Jerusalem. When the 2005 conclave gathered to choose a new pope, Martini made the trip to Rome anyway, leaning on a cane. He later admitted that showing up that way was his own signal that he wasn't seeking the job. The papacy went to Joseph Ratzinger.

He had spent his whole career trying to move the Church forward from the inside. He would only tell the world exactly how far behind he thought it still was once he could no longer be part of fixing it.

By 2008, his illness had worsened enough that he returned to Italy for care.

In August 2012, two weeks before he died, Martini gave one last interview, to a fellow Jesuit, Georg Sporschill, and a friend, Federica Radice Fossati Confalonieri. He asked that it only be published after his death.

"The Church is tired," he told them. "Our prayer rooms are empty."

Every parish has someone who says exactly what they think about how things are run, just never loud enough, or soon enough, for the people in charge to really hear it.

Carlo Maria Martini died in Gallarate, Italy, on August 31, 2012, at 85. His doctor said he stayed alert until the end and refused any extraordinary treatment. His interview ran in Corriere della Sera the very next morning, telling all of Italy in his own words that the Church was "200 years behind."

Today, the Fondazione Carlo Maria Martini in Milan keeps his writings archived, funds education programs for young people, and runs an annual public lecture on his work with the University of Milano-Bicocca.

Some men spend a lifetime trying to change an institution from inside it. Martini only got to say what he really thought once he was already gone.

The California Catholic Conference is urging support for legislation aimed at restricting addictive social-media features for children under 16.

The bishops say the issue is not about rejecting technology. It is about protecting childhood and supporting parents who are trying to keep young people safe online.

Their concerns include:

• Compulsive or excessive use
• Harm to body image and self-esteem
• Unwanted contact from strangers
• Exposure to po*******hy, violence and drug-related content
• Content involving self-harm and eating disorders

The debate comes as technology companies face growing pressure over how their platforms affect minors.

The Church's message is straightforward:

CHILDREN DESERVE PROTECTION.
PARENTS DESERVE SUPPORT.
TECHNOLOGY SHOULD SERVE PEOPLE, NOT CONTROL THEM.

Catholic teaching recognizes the benefits of modern technology while also emphasizing the responsibility to protect human dignity, especially the dignity and wellbeing of children.

In Fairfield, Pennsylvania, a community of Discalced Carmelite sisters is building a monastery with an extraordinary goal: to create a lasting “beacon of light” for generations to come. ✝️

Instead of relying on modern construction methods, the Carmel of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph is embracing old-world craftsmanship, including traditional stone masonry and timber framing.

The project is designed around durability and simplicity, with stonework and traditional building techniques intended to create a monastery that can endure for centuries.

🏛️ The project began in 2013 and is currently about 20% complete, with a projected budget of $100 million. The sisters have raised approximately $22 million so far.

But this is about more than stone and timber.

For the Carmelites, the monastery is meant to be a permanent home for prayer, silence, sacrifice and contemplation, carrying their vocation into the future.

St. Teresa of Ávila taught her daughters to build their lives firmly upon Christ. These sisters are now building their monastery with the same long view.
