Jesus did it . . . now you can receive it.

Dear Friend,

There is a key to receiving the abundant blessing and lavish provision of God in your life . . . but it may be something far different than what you might think.

The key to receiving God’s best is actually . . . a life of rest.

You may be thinking , Yes!

I want to live a life of rest.

But what does that mean, and how do I live that way?

My friend, it is a life that many want and work hard to achieve, but Romans 4:5 tells us very clearly:

“But to him who does not work but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness. (emphasis added).”

Another way to say this is to him who rests and believes.
This is an important phrase for you today—rest and believe!

How do you live righteously? Rest and believe.
How do you see your financial situation turn around? Rest and believe.
How do you receive wisdom for a tough decision? Rest and believe.
How do you find peace when a child is in trouble? Rest and believe.
How do you receive your miracle? Rest and believe.

The answer is always the same for those in Christ Jesus . . . rest and believe!

We have been taught for years in many of our churches that in order to receive God’s blessings and supernatural provision we must work hard and meet certain conditions to qualify.

Sadly, we have believed this to be true . . . and it has kept many believers very busy, legalistically doing things in their Christian walk to meet these conditions.

Beloved, as much as we think our own effort or work will qualify us for the blessings of God, it is important to understand that . . .

As a believer, you are pre-qualified!

Because we’re in Christ and He has met every condition required, you and I can rest and believe to receive every promise, every blessing, and every provision!

As you read those words, you may be thinking, But Hon. Rev. Jerry Smales, are you sure?

Surely there is something I must do in order to receive all the good things in life.

Beloved, actually the opposite is true.

In Romans 4:3, we see that Abraham was blessed and counted righteous, not because of what he did, but because he simply believed God loved him and would be faithful to His Word by blessing him.

And some people teach today that the blessings of God are only “spiritual.”

They don’t believe that God wants to pour out His goodness in tangible ways.

But Genesis 26:13-14 tells us that God’s blessings took care of Isaac’s (Abraham’s seed) practical needs; so much so that the Philistines who saw this, “envied him.”

I’m so glad the Holy Spirit put these verses in the Bible. You know why?

So no one can say, “Oh, the blessings of God are only ‘spiritual’.”

Meaning all the blessing are mystical, celestial, and unseen.”

No, the blessings of God are also physical and tangible!

Your physical body
Your finances
Your career
Your family
Your education

God has blessed all areas of your life!

Now you simply need to rest and believe to receive those blessings in order to posses what your loving heavenly Father has already provided.

Let me show you what that means in your daily life . . .

The book of Genesis talks about the feud between Jacob and Esau . . . and this has a direct application to you and your family.

You may remember that Jacob stole Esau’s birthright (see Genesis 27-33) and this caused a dispute between the two brothers.

When the two brothers reunited, Jacob sends gifts ahead to Esau, hoping to solve the conflict.

In Genesis 33;9, Esau declines the gifts “because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have “enough” when used in this context by Jacob originates from the Hebrew word, “kohl,” which means, “I have everything.”

I’m telling you there are billionaires on earth today who have plenty.

But you know what? They don’t have everything.

There are:

People who are wealthy who are struggling with their health so poor they expect to die any moment.
People who have full bank accounts but are struggling with their marriages and may die alone.
People who have all the success they could dream of but have no peace or joy or anyone to share it with.

Beloved, as you rest and believe, you’ll find the blessings of god bring “everything” in your life—spiritual, physical, emotional!

that means—you can ask Jesus to help you rest and believe so that you can receive . . .

Health
Provision
Wisdom
Peace
Joy
Righteousness

Dear Beloved,

They are the three most important words you will ever read . . .

Three words that broke the power of sin in your life.

Three words that freed you from every bo***ge.

Three words that brought you into a new covenant with God.

It is finished.

In John 19:30, these are the words Jesus cried out on the cross. . . and He cried them out for you!

Because you’ve received the Lord and His finished work at the cross, there is now no more working to earn God’s favor.

No more sacrificed and rituals.

No more separation between you and God.

Jesus did the work neither you nor I could ever do.

His sacrifice guaranteed our righteousness before the Father.

His work is sufficient!

His work is a gift!

His work is finished!

So why do we still struggle with guilt and condemnation?

Why do we still try to earn our right standing with god?

Imagine this scenario with me . . .

Let’s say you have a service come and clean your home.

They clean each room from floor to ceiling.

Dusting, vacuuming, cleaning, windows, scrubbing every corner and countertop.

They clean it all.

Now, when they leave after their work is done, if you get out your scrub brushes and begin cleaning again, there can only be one reason. . .

You didn’t think their work was good enough.

It wasn’t sufficient.

Beloved, this is what man’s attempt at righteousness looks like.

When we try to clean ourselves up, when we try to be our own righteiousness, we are saying the work Jesus did wasn’t good enough—that it wasn’t sufficient.

Jesus did the work.

You are accepted and approved before God.

He is sufficient.

Second Corinthians 5:21 tells us this:

For [God] made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Notice where your righteousness comes from . . . it comes from being in Christ.

It’s not in your efforts. It’s not in your abilities. It’s not dependent upon your successes or your failures.

The perfect, finished work of Jesus had made you righteous!

And because of His finished work . . .

You can reign over addictions.

You have health and wholeness in Him.

You can walk in divine wisdom and favor.

You are forever accepted and approved before the Father.

Friend, I’m not telling you to be lazy and do nothing.

But as you continue to fulfill your daily responsibilities, know that these blessings (and so many others) come as a result of you resting in Jesus’ sacrifice.

His shed blood speaks total forgiveness, righteousness, favor, healing, and peace for you!

As I close this letter, I recognize that resting in the finished work of Jesus may be something you’re still learning.

Even for those whose lives have been transformed by the gospel of grace, it can be easy to slip back into the trap of self-righteousness.
