Apologies for disappearing for Lugh (or Lammas)
As most of you know I don’t celebrate based on the calendar. I am remiss if I do not post a little something though. I’m a big fan of a luni-solar calendar. There isn’t much evidence to support this but I refer to the idea that once upon a time our ancestors looked to the sky — when the moon was full and when the moon was dark informed a lot of choices. Humans didn’t have paper calendars, or at one time, priests calling the shots for saints days.
Lughnasad also encourages us, in a Northern hemisphere kind of way, to celebrate the fruits of summer harvests. It is fairs and festivals season where you can have your deep fried butter or attend a cow show. For years, you could find me at the state fair as a master gardener talking to people about their crops and gardens. I loved this with all that is in me. While my son heals, I have let this go turned toward family healing. I miss my annual visit to the fair and the very personal way I celebrate Lugh.
What are ways you celebrate this holiday? Do you bake? I’m currently cleaning from a month of travel mainly centered around STEM camps and bringing opportunities to children, with one week in the woods, thankfully.
