As a teen, Doug Roe found Christ and was looking to be of a part of a church that was doing what Jesus did. He would look unsuccessfully until the 1980s when he was introduced to the ministry of John Wimber and the Vineyard Church movement. Doug and his wife Marcie, found the church they had been looking for the moment they walked into the Vineyard Church in Cincinnati. Doug, who always desired a

roll in church leadership, would join the staff of The Cincinnati Vineyard, leaving his job in corporate America. It was during that time Doug would meet Scott Sliver, a worship leader and a small businessman. Becoming friends the duo would learn they shared a unique dream, to see a church like the Vineyard in Dayton. Soon the two ordinary guys would pack up their families, leave Cincinnati for Dayton to change the world. They would plant The Vineyard church in Dayton with a single goal, to make a lasting change on the city in simple ways with the love and power of God. Since planting the church over 20 years ago, they have never looked back, leading the church in innovative ways of making God’s love known throughout the city and beyond.

We often think humility is something private; an attitude, a feeling, or a posture we carry in our hearts before God.

But Jesus gave humility a face.

He knelt down and washed dirty feet.

Paul described it as becoming a living sacrifice.

Real humility isn't thinking less of yourself. It's choosing to use your life, your gifts, your time, and your resources for the benefit of others.

The world tells us to look out for ourselves first. Jesus shows us a different way.

The way of the pilgrim is the way of humility. And the way of humility is a life poured out in love and service for others.

Who can you serve this week?

The world is not desperate for more polished religion.

It’s desperate for something real.

A people whose joy survives suffering. Whose peace outlasts anxiety. Whose kindness doesn’t need an agenda. Whose faithfulness stands out in a culture built on quitting, consuming, and moving on to the next thing.

Acts 2 didn’t just create a worship service. It formed a people filled with the presence and power of God.

A Church so alive that the world had to stop and stare.

That’s still the call today.

Not performative Christianity.
Not empty religion.
Not just trying harder.

But lives so transformed by Jesus that unbelievers begin questioning their disbelief.

The world is starving for that kind of Church.

A lot of people are exhausted trying to follow Jesus for one reason:

They’ve only been given half the picture.

Some pursue formation without the Holy Spirit.
Discipline without presence.
Truth without power.
And eventually faith becomes dry, performative, and exhausting.

Others pursue encounter without formation.
Always chasing the next emotional high.
Passion without roots.
And eventually the fire fades.

But Acts 2 gives us a third way:

Spirit-filled formation.

The Holy Spirit wasn’t poured out just to create emotional moments. He was poured out to form a people.

A people marked by:
- deep intimacy with God
- lasting fruit
- courage and holiness
- real transformation
- truth AND power

The Kingdom of God has never been either/or.
It’s always been both/and.

Practice and power.
Formation and encounter.
The Word and the Spirit.

This is the kind of discipleship that changes people.
And this is the kind of Church that makes the world stop and stare.

Somewhere along the way, many people settled for a version of Christianity that only exists in theory.

Information without transformation.
Belief without power.
Religion without the presence of God.

But Acts 2 paints a completely different picture.

The Holy Spirit wasn’t poured out so the Church could survive on good vibes, routines, or religious performance. He was poured out to empower ordinary people to live fully alive in the way of Jesus.

Not just inspired. Empowered.
Not just informed. Transformed.

There is more available than empty rituals and spiritual burnout. There is a life with God that is marked by His presence, His power, and deep formation over time.

Don’t lower Scripture to match your experience.
Let your hunger rise to meet what God says is possible.

“Why not here? Why not now? Come, Holy Spirit.”

The Kingdom of God was never meant to be reduced to an either/or faith.
It’s both/and.

Truth and Spirit.
Practice and power.
Deep thinking and deep feeling.
Biblical teaching and prophetic words.
Preaching the gospel and believing for signs and wonders.

Too often we settle for one side while rejecting the other. But Jesus calls His followers into a bigger, fuller life with Him.

Not just knowledge without encounter.
Not just emotion without foundation.
Not just gifts without fruit.
Not just discipline without dependence on the Holy Spirit.

This is what it means to follow Jesus: a life fully formed by both the Word of God and the Spirit of God.

Our culture teaches us to consume everything instantly.

Fast content. Fast opinions. Fast spirituality. We want comfort, convenience, and inspiration on demand.

But Jesus never called us to be tourists.

Tourists ask: “What can I get out of this?”

Pilgrims ask: “Where are You leading me?”

One consumes moments. The other surrenders to transformation.

Following Jesus was never meant to be casual, shallow, or convenient. It’s a lifelong journey of becoming more like Him — learning to trust Him, endure with Him, and walk with Him daily.

The invitation of Jesus is deeper than inspiration. It’s discipleship. It’s surrender. It’s transformation.

Don’t settle for tourist faith. Become a pilgrim.

We live in a world overflowing with information.

Podcasts. Sermons. Clips. Books. Quotes. Theology threads. Bible apps.

But information alone does not transform a person.

Jesus never called people just to know more about Him. He called them to follow Him.

“The Pharisees had information. They lacked formation.”

You don’t accidentally become loving.
You don’t accidentally become patient.
You don’t accidentally become like Jesus.

Transformation happens through intentional discipleship. Through abiding. Through surrender. Through walking with Him over the long haul.

Christian content can inspire you.
Only the presence of Jesus can form you.

He’s not inviting tourists.
He’s calling disciples.

Following Jesus was never meant to be reduced to church attendance, podcasts, Bible plans, or trying really hard to “be better.” Jesus doesn’t just invite us to admire Him. He invites us to walk with Him.

The goal of discipleship isn’t behavior modification. It’s transformation.

To be with Jesus.
To become like Jesus.
To do what Jesus would do if He were living your life.

That kind of formation doesn’t happen instantly. It happens on the road of daily surrender, perseverance, and abiding in His presence.

Tourists want inspiration.
Pilgrims want transformation.

Your work is more than a paycheck.
It’s an opportunity to bring peace into chaos, hope into fear, and the presence of Jesus into everyday moments.

Whatever you do, do it for His glory. 🙏

God doesn't force His way into our lives. He knocks.

Sometimes the knock comes through an interruption.
Sometimes through a moment of conviction.
Sometimes through a quiet moment you can't shake.

So, will you open the door?

I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in... (Revelation 3:20)
