How do you respond when there is injustice, when you are criticized or perhaps accused of a certain motive?

This week in our Beatitudes series, we're tackling a word our culture has gotten completely wrong: meek. We hear "meek" and picture a pushover — someone who can't stand up for themselves. But Jesus meant something entirely different. In His hands, meekness isn't weakness; it's strength under control — the same word used for a powerful warhorse trained to respond to the slightest touch of the reins. It's power that has learned restraint.

That changes everything about how you handle the moments that sting most: the accusation you didn't deserve, the criticism that cut deep, the injustice you can't fix. Grasping this can change your life, and have a huge impact on your relationships. Moreover, like each beatitude, meekness comes with a wonderful blessing. Meekness doesn't come naturally, but supernaturally. As we seek His face, draw close to Him, and surrender to His will, we will begin to exhibit the gentle strength that comes from being meek.
