Duane Lloyd Johnson, 75, of Stockdale, Ohio passed away peacefully after an extended illness at the Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on August 13, 2026 at 11:31 A.M surrounded by family and friends. Duane had been a patient at the Chillicothe VA where he loved his caregivers and staff. Duane was born June 2, 1951 to Harry Lloyd Johnson and Velma Cockrell Johnson Bowman of Waverly, Ohio, and graduated from Waverly High School in 1969 where he was a member of the Waverly Tigers football team for many years. After graduation, Duane joined the U.S. Army as a door gunner in Vietnam. He was a proud member of the 101st, 199th first aviation Brigade. He was most proud of his many military accomplishments, to name a few: crew serve wings; cross of gallantry; civil defense; Vietnam green, yellow, red; W4 stars; Vietnam green and white ribbon; good conduct medal; E4 aviation BDE cord; his orange, light blue cord; especially his expert rifle, pistol, bayonet award, and many more.
Duane is survived by his loving and caring wife Marcia Brown Johnson, whom he married on May 26, 1990. His children include Melody Dawn Johnson (Bryan), Duane Thomas Johnson (Crissy), Stone Aramis (Edy) Johnson (Lucas Welday), and his two grandchildren who he dearly loved, Taila Hodge (Cody) and Wylo Ruiz Johnson and her father Vicente, his brothers Dan Johnson of Waverly, Ohio and Elbert Thomas Bowman, and brother and sisters-in-law Joe and Mary Smith, Marleen Weidner (Gary), Frank and Tami Brown, Melodie Mattox and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as special friends Gerry, Junie, Sherman and Sofia Salisbury.
Duane is preceded in death by his parents Harry Lloyd Johnson and Velma Bowman, step-dad Elbert Bowman, brother Jim Bowman, and sister-in-law Becky Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday August 16, 2026 at the Cox Burkitt Funeral Home in Beaver, Ohio from 1:00-3:00 P.M. followed by a funeral service at 3:00 P.M. with John Reedy officiating. Burial will follow in Stockdale Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Merritt Post #142 of Waverly.
