Saturday, 22 August @ Robson Freewill Baptist Church, Robson, WV

Again, the Depot is able to offer relief supplies to the Robson community. Today's delivery included items specifically requested for the community through pastor, James Bowles. We delivered 50 brooms, 50+ 5-gal buckets for spreading lime, 30 square-point shovels, and 30 rakes. These are in addition to the 25 shovels and 20 rakes delivered earlier this week and already in use in the community where mud still rules.

The church's activity building has quickly turned into the community center for relief supplies. A look inside and one is reminded of old general store photos. There are boxes of food with bread loaves waiting to be picked up in one end of the large room while the other end resembles a hardware store its corners bristling with shovel and rake handles. Between the corners overloaded tables sway from an abundance of bleach, Brillo pads, laundry and dish detergents, other cleansers, and paper products. Scattered among the cleaning supplies are the remaining UMCOR cleaning buckets from the Depot. Bottled water is prominently piled in the middle of the room. Before leaving, we gathered with the two church workers and prayed... we asked for God's blessing but that blessing is already at work of course. Here is the Church being the Church right on the side of well-worn and patched Rte 61, Fayette County. God is here, God has never left, and God clearly will continue to work through these tough and compassionate folk.

The Depot is grateful to be able to help support the King Center with relief supplies earlier this week.

19 August — Flood relief supplies deliveries continue…

Two Fayette Co. deliveries today: Robson Freewill Baptist Church and Armstrong Creek VFD. Cleaning buckets totaled 250 along with shovels and rakes.

Tuesday, 18 August — King Center Delivery

Another delivery to Kanawha County at the King Community Center in Charleston. The trailer load included 260 cleaning buckets, 100 mops, and 60 shovels. Thanks to “BB” and Richard for helping load. Thanks to “BB” for traveling with us to help unload. Huge help!!

Thank you, friends of the Depot! To all the Depot work teams building, auditing, dating, palletizing, and stretch wrapping cleaning buckets pays off when it takes less than 2 minutes to fetch 144 buckets — these buckets and others will quickly be on their way to Kanawha County in the morning. Monday, August 17 — Responding to Weekend Storms and Flooding:

Once again, we are loading, hauling, and delivering buckets in response to flash flooding. The King Community Center in Charleston received 143 cleaning buckets. Tomorrow, we will deliver 250 more buckets. We much appreciate the good help from folks at the King Center.

A stormy Tuesday in August:

The Depot is happy to help with the Rhodell Church of God's Back to School Bash with 120 UMCOR - United Methodist Committee On Relief Hygiene Kits. Cody, a member at Rhodell COG, will make sure that the kits are put to good use for the kids in the Rhodell area.

Does your church need Hygiene Kits for your community's students? Best message the Depot so that can happen. The Depot also has a limited supply of spiral-bound notebooks, bags, pencils, and other school essentials available (see photo). Blessings to all students, teachers, administrators, and school staffers.

2 August, Sunday: Thank You!

The 2026 Scout Jamboree is over and 2,000+ new cleaning bucket kits are in the warehouse. Buckets don't unload and stack themselves. This is the time to offer thanks and gratitude for the folks who spent their time preparing the warehouse for the buckets, waiting for trucks to arrive, held their patience when the truck failed to come at all, stacked buckets, purchased and prepared food for hungry workers, and drove the van and truck. Many thanks to Lynn Mayberry, Don Stilgenbauer, Jim McCune, Ben Wells, Richard Moeller, and driver, George Hohmann. We highlight Depot faithful friend, Bernard "BB" Bailey. BB drove from WYCO to Beaver day after day to serve.

The crew from Beckley Community UMC remained committed and offered their constant service. These folks included Lynda and Bill Eades, Ed Wilkerson, Randy Curtis, and Mike Cipolat. We also are grateful for Mary Thomas. Mary is a recruiting pro and assembled a fine crew from UM Temple, Beckley, which included Steve, Anna, JC, "Chick", Katy, Doug, and Pastor Steve to name a few. Wayne Custer arrived from Wheeling along with two good hands, Don and Gary. Kaitlyn and Conner Ferguson proved they are top notch workers (and delightful conversationalists). Scott and Beckie Ferguson transported over 300 buckets to Weston, Buckhannon, and Ellamore for flood relief. The ladies and men from St. Luke's UMC, Craigsville, arrived ready to "git 'er done". However, buckets didn't arrive that day -- apologies St. Luke's friends but unavoidable. Of course, the Lutheran youth hailing from North Dakota were invaluable the first day of deliveries.

Now, it is highly probable that I have missed naming some wonderful folks who waited, sweated, socialized, and stacked buckets and hygiene kits. Apologies to those I have failed to name. Oh! one more group — those of you offering prayers 🙏🏼 for the Scouts and Depot. "Thank you" to all and may blessings continue to strengthen your journeys.

31 July, Friday — The last bucket

Jack (left) and Russel (right), working with Scouting America, deliver the last bucket designated for the Depot from the 2026 National Jamboree. We do not yet have an exact count, but well over 2,000 UMCOR - United Methodist Committee On Relief cleaning kits (buckets) are at the Depot. The final buckets assembled (over 300) at the Summit Bechtel Reserve were delivered to distribution centers in Weston, Buckhannon, and Ellamore, WV. Pastor Scott Ferguson and wife, Becky, made sure those buckets headed to where they are needed. The Depot remains grateful to Scouting America and individual Scouts building disaster response buckets: buckets are assembled and delivered the very next day to WV communities devastated by flooding — how good and timely that community service is a vital part of scouting — blessings to Scouts and Scouting America.
