The Trinity Conference GMC will have a new bishop Nov. 5. Keep him in your prayers, along with Bishop Scott Jones in his retirement.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! We have a new bishop.

The 2026 General Conference of the Global Methodist Church has elected Rev. Dr. Luther Oconer to serve Trinity Annual Conference and the other Annual Conferences in the Episcopal Area 1.

Bishop-elect Oconer will preside over our Annual Conference for the next six years. Please join us in celebrating this election and in welcoming him into the Kingdom work of making disciples of Jesus Christ and spreading scriptural holiness across the globe.

We pray God's Holy Spirit on Bishop-elect Oconer in all of his days serving in this new role shepherding the Tanzania, Convenant Philippines, India, Mega Manila Philippines, Panama, Mississippi-West Tennessee and Trinity Annual Conferences.

We usually think we know courage when we see it: it's loud, unflinching, it tells the other side exactly what it thinks and doesn't blink.

But Russell Moore names the problem with that picture: "Much of what Scripture defines as courage—kindness, humility, the bridling of the passions—our culture sees as timidity."

Are you guilty of this? Often the things we've quietly filed under "weakness"—staying kind when we could score a point, staying humble when we could be certain, holding our tongue when we could let it fly—might be the bravest things we do all week.

Elijah learned this truth the hard way. We remember him calling down fire and humiliating his enemies, but the story of Elijah didn’t begin there. God did his deepest work later, in the wilderness, when Elijah had no swagger left—only enough honesty to admit he was afraid.
