Lionel Burcham is a 2026 recipient of the Charles A. Winans Scholarship from Beaumont High School. He will receive a $1,000 award. The scholarship was established by Gilbert and Alia Winans in memory of their son, a 1953 graduate of Beaumont High School, who died November 6, 1960, while helping a stranded motorist. The Winans were active members of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Beaumont and Gilbert Winans was a teacher at Beaumont Junior High School. Lionel will study music at Chapman University.

Christmas Eve service at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will start with carol singing at 6:30 pm followed by Holy Eucharist at 7:00 pm. Christmas Day service of Holy Eucharist will be at 10:00 am. ALL are welcome! St. Stephen’s is located at 225 E. 8th St. (corner of 8th & Edgar) in Beaumont.

20th Annual Christmas Tree Festival at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Beaumont opened with a Wassail Party on Wednesday night. Sponsored by the church’s St. Mary’s Guild, the event included a live and silent auction. Special thanks to Beaumont High School National Honor Society volunteers who helped, and to Pamela Bearden who served as auctioneer. Tea luncheons will follow on Friday and Saturday. Proceeds benefit Carol’s Kitchen, H.E.L.P., Inc., and Table of Plenty—organizations that address hunger and food insecurity. More than $250,000 has been raised for organizations serving the San Gorgonio Pass since the Christmas Tree Festival started in 2006.
