Friends,
It would be easy to simply move past the tragedy that occurred this week at 9th & Summit Street, but we cannot. As a neighborhood church—located just blocks away at 12th & Summit—Summit Street Church has committed to this place and to the people who live here. We follow the Way of Jesus, a way shaped by belonging, peace, and nonviolence; we believe that every person is made in the Image of God, regardless.
As a response to this tragedy, we invite you to a community gathering intended for one another. Summit Street Church isn’t interested in moving past “the mess” of this too quickly. But we do believe that these events call for a response; this moment will not be met with silence. We hope you will join us in offering your presence, wherever you are in life.
Join us:
Sunday, April 26, 2026
Corner of 9th & Summit
10:00 AM
How will we use the time?
We will pray, sing, reflect, hold space, and make room for one another. There are no easy answers and we aren’t looking to fix or explain things away. We just want to be in this moment, together.
A mic will be available for those who would like to share, and we ask that all who speak do so in a spirit of peace and respect for one another.
Other notes:
This gathering is hosted by Summit Street Church and rooted in the Way of Jesus, but it is open to anyone—neighbors, friends, those grieving, those angry, those searching for hope, or simply a place to stand. You do not need to belong to a church to be involved. Jesus showed us a new way of being at table with one another. ALL ARE WELCOME.
Pastoral presence will be available beginning at 9:30 AM for anyone who would like prayer, conversation, or simply a place to be. If you cannot make the gathering, feel free to email me using the email address below.
The street will be closed between 9th & Summit and 9th & Garfield. We ask that all people respect the neighborhood and all those in attendance.
If you need a chair, please bring one.
We will stand together and we hope you will stand with us.
