Angelic Baptist Church was founded in 1887 by Rev. Thornton and a few members in the home of Deacon Harry Thompson located at 155 Randolph Avenue, Jersey City, New Jersey. As the membership grew, the church moved to Salter’s Hall in Jersey City. It was not long before the church relocated to its current locatio

n at 9-11 East 46th Street, Bayonne, New Jersey. The church was set apart by Pastor Motley and the Salem Baptist Church located on Union Street in Jersey City, New Jersey. Thornton was Pastor, the building underwent several renovations including the installation of a lower level dining area and the relocation of the Choir stand in the front of the Church. Pastor Thornton served from 1887 until the fall of 1921. Angelic had several pastors from 1922 to 1980. They were: Rev. Jenkins, Rev. Meyers, Rev. C. H. Church, Sr., Rev. Blackwell, Rev. W. A. Lee, Rev. R. Caddell, Rev. Karry, Rev. L. Battle and Rev. W.O. Reynolds. In 1980, Rev. Sloan Gordon, Sr. was called to serve as Senior Pastor. Under his leadership, the Gospel Chorus, Nurses Unit, Flower Circle and Prayer Band were organized. In addition, many renovations were made which included the installation of carpeting, glass entrance doors in the upper and lower levels of the church, a PA system, stained glass windows throughout the church, paneling in dining area and the choir room, as well as, the purchase of a church van. Rev. Gordon, Sr. served from July, 1980 to August, 1999 until he retired. On Sunday, August 22, 1999, Rev. Sloan Gordon, Jr. became Pastor. The Angelic Baptist Church Family has been truly blessed both financially and spiritually through the grace and goodness of God. Under Pastor Gordon’s leadership, the church has undergone a complete makeover in the sanctuary and fellowship hall. A new organ was purchased along with a new van. A new sound system has been installed along with a new heating system, a new baptismal pool, a new roof and new windows. Future projects of Angelic include: A new facelift, siding, and an elevator. Angelic can honestly say, being in existence for over 130 years, we have come this far by faith leaning on the Lord.

Pastor Sloan Gordon reminded us that handling debt is not just a financial issue — it is a matter of discipline, character, and integrity.

If hardship comes and a payment must be delayed, don’t hide, ignore the call, or act like the obligation disappeared. Communicate. Let the creditor, lender, or person you borrowed from know what is going on. Silence can damage trust, strain relationships, and turn someone else’s kindness into a burden.

The message was clear: when we borrow, we make a commitment. Whether it is a bill, a loan, or money borrowed from someone personally, we must respect their time, their money, and the agreement we made.

Pastor Gordon challenged us not to chase “debt cancellation” while ignoring the debt we already promised to pay. Instead of using money on things that only feel good for the moment, put it toward what you owe.

Paying what we owe is part of our witness.
Discipline matters. Integrity matters. Communication matters.

As First Lady Rose Gordon and Pastor Sloan Gordon sang, “This is the dressing up room” Pastor Sloan Gordon’s message reminded us that this life is our place of preparation.

Point 2: It is our responsibility to live a life that is pleasing to God.

Preparing for eternity takes more than belief alone. It requires transformation, holiness, and a daily decision to practice God’s presence everywhere we go — not just in church, but at home, on the job, around family, and in private.

What pleases God is not talent, titles, or outward appearance. What pleases God is holiness. This is the dressing room down here, and every day God gives us is another chance to live for

There was such a powerful and heartfelt moment as First Lady Rose Gordon and Pastor Sloan Gordon ministered the hymn, “This Is the Dressing Upper Room.”

This song is a beautiful reminder that while we are here on earth, we are in preparation mode. Every day is an opportunity to get our hearts right, grow closer to God, and be ready for His presence. What a moving message through song that this life is not our final home, but a place of preparation for eternity.

Thank God for the rich reminder in this old hymn and for the voices of His servants who continue to point us back to what truly matters.

May we all stay ready, stay prayerful, and stay clothed in His righteousness.

Pastor Sloan Gordon reminded us that faith is not a feeling, a moment, or a church routine — it is a daily lifestyle.

If we are going to walk with God, we must learn to:
trust God over what we see,
build our lives on His Word,
choose obedience over emotions,
and allow Scripture to shape our character, choices, and integrity.

Pastor made it clear: faith is not “name it and claim it.”

Real faith is trusting God, asking according to His will, and living in alignment with His Word.

The challenge was simple but strong:
Are your habits, decisions, and private life lining up with what God says?
Because if we are truly going to walk by faith, then God’s Word must override our feelings, desires, and preferences.

Good morning Family!

Last Palm Sunday, Pastor Sloan Gordon reminded us that the crowd recognized who Jesus was, but misunderstood why He came. They had the right Savior, but the wrong expectations. They wanted a King to fix outward problems, but Jesus came to deal with sin, the heart, and our eternal condition.

Pastor challenged us not to be people who only praise Jesus in public, but live differently in private. The same crowd that shouted “Hosanna” later cried “Crucify Him” when Jesus did not meet their personal expectations.

Key Reminder:
Don’t get stuck on Palm Sunday — follow Jesus to Good Friday. Palm Sunday is celebration, but Good Friday is where the cross deals with what burdens us most.

What must we take to the cross?
Anxiety
Shame and guilt
Broken relationships
Hopelessness
Loneliness and abandonment
Control issues
Pain and suffering

Pastor also reminded us that while the crowd was celebrating, Jesus was weeping over Jerusalem. He saw what they could not see. In the same way, Jesus still sees what we cannot.

So the call is clear:
Don’t just celebrate Him emotionally.
Follow Him obediently.
And the good news is this:
The story does not end at the cross.
✨ After Calvary, there is resurrection.
✨ Beyond your pain, there is new life.
✨ If you let Jesus carry your burdens, there is hope, healing, freedom, and a new beginning on the other side.

Final Takeaway:
Don’t get stuck at the celebration.
Walk with Jesus all the way to the cross, and let Him carry what you cannot.
