Nobody wakes up in the morning and says, “I think I’ll go through depression today. I think I’ll experience disappointment today. I think I’ll lose something I love today. I think I’ll have my heart broken today. I think I’ll spend this season struggling today.”

No! There are some places that life will take you without asking for your permission.

David says, “I waited patiently for the LORD…”

Notice David is telling this story from the other side. He had been in a low place, but he didn’t stay there.

That’s the good news: the pit may be part of your story, but it doesn’t have to be the end of your story.

David could look back and say, “I was there, but God brought me out!”

One thing I’ve learned about life is that trouble has a way of making time feel longer than it really is.

When you’re hurting, one night can feel like a whole week. When you’re waiting on God, one month can feel like a whole year. When you’re carrying something you can’t tell everybody about, you can find yourself looking at the clock, looking at the calendar, and wondering, “Lord, how much longer do I have to go through this?”

But I came with a word for somebody who has been watching the clock.

Not much longer now!
