Completing the Work
Philippians 1:6 AMPC
And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.

I have always loved this scripture. The promise that God will continue what He started, that He will carry it on to completion gives me assurance and strengthens my faith. The Lord doesn’t want to partially work in you. He wants to complete the work, and also, the good work is in you. It’s not about what you will do or even the destiny you will fulfill. It’s about what’s going on inside of you. It’s all about that inward transformation. The good work in you is connected to you being transformed by the renewal of your mind.

One thing to note is that the good work that’s going on in you will continue. It is a process. The work in me is making me like Him. It’s the process that helps me live out the life of Christ in this body on this earth. I’ve been told several times to “trust the process.” Here is a process I can actually trust because it’s all about the good work God is doing in me. There’s so much in this one scripture, but for today take a moment and think about what the Lord is doing in you rather than for you. As you allow Him to renew you from the inside, you will find yourself acting like God more and more. Not only will your actions reflect His righteousness, they will also reflect God’s power. God began a good work in you. Be aware of how He is continuing that good work in you today.

Thank You Lord for Your promises. I am confident that You will complete every good thing You have started in me. Today, I am expecting You to work in me to make me more like You and cause Your will to be done. In Jesus’ Name..

Testimony Time
Psalms 107:2 NKJV
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy…

Have you ever thought about why we give our testimony? Revelation 12:11 says that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony, so we know that testimonies have power. As I began to dig into the power of our testimony, I kept running into the word aydooth. It is the Hebrew word that is translated into testimony throughout the Bible. What is lost in the translation is that the word literally means, “do it again with the same power and authority.” When I give my testimony I am saying to all that hear it that God can do this thing again with the same power and authority.

Everytime Paul testified about how the Lord saved him on the road to Damascus, he was saying God can save you just like he saved me. He still has power and authority to do it. When we testify about how God healed us or how He provided or how He made a way out of no way, we aren’t telling our business. We are setting the stage for God to do it again. When people hear what God has done they can attach their faith to His power and get set up for God to do the miracle again. Never be ashamed of your testimony. Every time you tell what God has done you are asking Him to do it again. This time for someone else. Your testimony releases power for you to overcome and sets the atmosphere for God to do a repeat performance. So tell it! Say so! Set the stage for the power of God with your words and watch Him do the miraculous again and again!

Thank You Lord for what You’ve done in my life! I ask You for boldness so that I can testify. Holy Spirit, let me know when it’s time for me to “say so” so that you can set the atmosphere for more miracles. In Jesus’ Name…

Your Location
Job 23:8-10 NIV

But if I go to the east, He is not there; if I go to the west, I do not find Him. When He is at work in the north, I do not see Him; when He turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of Him. But He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.

Let’s set the scene for today’s verse. Job has gone through unspeakable tragedy and the friends have come to help him make sense of it. Of course the most logical response is that Job has done something wrong, so God is punishing him. Now the readers of this story know that’s not true, because we were able to see what was going on in Heaven, but Job and friends are still working it out. As Job defends himself, he tells the friends if he could just get to where God is, he would state his case and prove his innocence. And that’s what he’s talking about in verse 8. He says he could go east, west, north, and south and not find God anywhere, but he knows God knows where he is.

There have been times in my Christian life when it’s felt like I just couldn’t find God. Things weren’t right and I felt like I just couldn’t connect with God. I didn’t know where to look. The assurance we find in this scripture is not that God is with us, even though we know He is because He promised never to leave or forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5) The promise is that He knows where we are. No matter what’s going on in your life, you are not lost, because God knows where you are. He knows your exact location. Last week when I was in New York City there were times my GPS would say I can’t determine your location. Well, that was a problem because if the GPS couldn’t find me, then it couldn’t give me directions. God never loses me. He always has my location, therefore He can always guide me out of whatever it is I am in. I simply need to acknowledge Him and He will direct my path. I might not always know why, but I do know He will get me where I need to be when I need to get there. Trust Him to lead you in the path of righteousness.

Lord, thank You for always having my location. Thank You for being able to lead me to the right place. I ask You for grace to trust You more. In Jesus’ Name…

Since You've Never Been This Way Before
Joshua 3:2-4 NIV
After three days the officers went throughout the camp, giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits between you and the ark; do not go near it.”

This is a scripture I have meditated on during new seasons of my life, but the wisdom here can be applied to every new day in my life. So let me set the scene. We’re in Joshua and Moses, the only leader this entire nation of people has had for 40 years, has died. Now they have a new leader, and they are moving from the wilderness they have wandered in for 40 years. The oldest person was still a teenager when they left Egypt. No one knows how to live outside of Egypt without Moses. For 40 Years Moses has taught them who God is, taught them how to live for Him, and taught them the promise of a land of milk and honey. It’s been their whole lives that they have been hearing about owning property and fields and living a life past having their needs met on a day to day basis. And now Joshua, the 40 year assistant, is telling them it’s time to go live what God has promised.

In order to live what God has promised, there will be times you have to go a way you’ve never been before. God knows this, so He has already given us instructions on how to move. Joshua told the nation of Israel, when you see God move, you move. The ark of the covenant represented the Presence of God. Joshua said follow God. Today, we don’t have to follow priests or leaders. We can move together, but God leads us individually and if we will look to follow Him, He will show us which way to go every day of our lives. It’s time for us to live out the promises of God. Don’t be afraid if that takes you a way you’ve never been before. Just follow God. You can’t go wrong!

Lord, I am looking to You. There are places I have never been. Please lead me in the path of righteousness for You Name sake. Make my path straight. I trust You to bring me to the places You have promised. In Jesus’ Name..

Time to Remember
Psalm 118:23 KJV
This is the LORD's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.

We are heading into Memorial Day Weekend. Although it may be most famous for the sales that happen over the weekend, the purpose of the holiday is to remember those that gave their lives for our country. It is a time to remember. As we pause to remember those that gave their lives for our freedom and to give us the opportunity of America, let’s remember the Lord who causes all things to work for our good.

As I prepare to celebrate the college graduation of my oldest daughter, it’s easy to remember the Lord. This has been His doing. He has provided. He made ways out of no way. He made crooked places straight. He healed, rescued, and delivered. He gave her a spirit of excellence to excel in her studies. The Lord has done all of these things and more, and it’s marvelous in my eyes. What can you remember this Memorial weekend? What marvelous thing are you experiencing because of the goodness of God in your life? Let’s remember. Let’s celebrate the Lord and His goodness!

Thank You Lord for what You’ve done for me. Thank You for the marvelous things I get to experience because of Your goodness. Continue to have your way in my life. In Jesus’ Name…

Prepare for Worship
Psalms 100:2 NIV

Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

The scripture is what came from my heart as I thought about today. It’s Sekari’s birthday,(Happy Birthday!) and as our worship leader, she prepares joyful songs so that we always have the opportunity to enter in with thanksgiving and worship with gladness. Even with her preparation and dedication, we cannot encounter God through her. We can’t know God through whoever the preacher is that day. We can’t please God on our Grandmamma’s faith. We can’t experience God through our mother’s prayers. All of this has to be personal. Each of us personally has to worship, give thanks, pray, have faith, and know God. Our church family supports us as we collectively grow, but church is like a group project, and we each have to come prepared each Sunday by working our personal relationship each day.

Paul tells us in Romans 12:1 what our reasonable act of worship is. The Message says it like this, “Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.” That’s reasonable. That’s worship. That’s our individual part. So let’s get to work. Love the Lord today. Love the people around you today. Walk in faith. Talk to God in prayer. Give Him thanks, and worship Him from your heart. And when we all get together again, our group project of worship is going to be an experience like never before!

Lord, thank You for the opportunity to worship You with my whole life. Shape the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart so that all that I am pleases You each day. In Jesus’Name…

Beginning and End
Revelation 1:8 NIV
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

My life has always run on the school calendar. First I was in school, and once I started working professionally, I worked at a school. The year began in August and ended in May. January to December was just what was on the 12 month calendar we bought to hang on the wall. And today we’re in May. For many of us this is the last week of school, and we’ve had many graduations to celebrate. If that isn’t beginning and end, I don’t know what is. We have the last day of school and celebrate moving up or promotions, and we have commencement celebrations which actually declare a new beginning.

Life is a continual series of beginnings and ends. We end a new job to start another. We say goodbye to a loved one and hello to the newest baby in the family. There are so many examples, but no matter what phase we are experiencing, Jesus is there. He is literally the beginning and the end. If He used the English alphabet like we do, He would have said I’m the A and the Z. Isaiah 46:10 says, “I make known the end from the beginning…” Our beginnings and our ends and our starting up agains don’t surprise God. He knows when we get started how it’s going to end up and He’s with us. We end up with so many good things in life because somewhere between how we started and how we ended, He made the crooked places straight. He works those things for our good, so even when we have a rough ending, it still ends up being good to us or for us. So today, whatever is going on in your life, trust God. Trust the fact that He loves you. Trust the fact that He’s good. Trust the fact that He is in control of your beginnings and endings. Now that you’re trusting, go ahead and release your faith for exceeding abundantly above. It’s the same God working it!

Thank You Lord for being my everything. I give you all my beginnings and all my endings. Work Your will in my life. Display Your glory. Have Your way. I trust that it’s all going to be for my good. In Jesus’ Name…

We are Triumphant!
1 Corinthians 12:18 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

But as it is, God has placed and arranged the limbs and organs in the body, each [particular one] of them, just as He wished and saw fit and with the best adaptation.

You are the Body of Christ and satan has no power over you. Have you ever thought about your place in the Body or that you were placed there by God on purpose? When I think about this verse in the KJV it says that God set the members in place. That always reminds me of the hymn “O Church of God”. Here are a couple of stanzas:

The church of God one body is,

One Spirit dwells within;

And all her members are redeemed,

And triumph over sin.

God sets her members each in place,
According to His will—
Apostles, prophets, teachers, all,
His purpose to fulfill.

Many of you are singing along and adding the chorus. Those of us that grew up in the Church of God Reformation Movement sang this song often. It was a reminder that the Body of Christ must be filled with the Holy Spirit and that it always wins over the penalty and punishment of sin. We have to take knowledge like that and make it personal and applicable to ourselves. We are the limbs and organs of the Body of Christ. We are essential. We carry the same power Jesus did on this earth. We are triumphant! The last lines of the last stanza of “O Church of God” say “Put on thy strength and face thy foes With courage undismayed.” That is our task everyday. We are to put on our strength that comes from God and face whatever is out there with courage because we know we win! Go out there with that audacity today!

Thank you Jesus for making me an essential part of the Body of Christ. Thank you for your divine plan that has placed and arranged me exactly where you want me. Help me today to put on my strength and face everything with the courage that comes from you. In Jesus’ Name...

Happy Birthday Monica!
