Let Him Control
Romans 6:23 NIV
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I am thinking about life again today. I read that life wasn’t given to me to control. So let’s meditate on two thoughts. Number one. Life has been given to us. This life that we have here on earth is a gift. The gift is eternal life, not life in Heaven. We have defined eternal life as the life that begins after we leave this earth. Jesus did not say that. He said He came so that we would have and enjoy life. Eternal life begins when we receive life through Jesus here on earth and it continues on forever. It’s about the quality and the quantity. We also have been instructed on how to get the best out of this life. Our instructions include do not worry, do not be anxious, and do not fear. We’re instructed to walk by faith and not what we see.

That leads to thought number two. If we can’t even see where we’re walking, how can we control anything? Jesus never planned for us to control the world or figure out the way. If we’re living based on what we see and can control then we’re not living by faith and we’re not pleasing God. He tells us to acknowledge Him and not lean on our own understanding. So if you are feeling out of control today, don’t worry about it. Talk to the Lord and ask Him what He wants you to do with your gift of life today. He gave it to you for a good purpose today. He knows the plans for today. Give Him control and receive life.

Lord, I can get overwhelmed because I feel out of control. I give all of that to You. I receive Your life and I choose to walk by faith today. Lead me on the path of righteousness and accomplish Your will in my life today. In Jesus’ Name…

Another Invitation
Matthew 11:28-30 The Message
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

This verse is Jesus speaking. It is another one of His invitations. You are probably more familiar with a version that sounds like this, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” This is Jesus inviting us to Him, and it doesn’t matter what has you feeling tired or worn out. I find myself being burdened down with the nonsense of people that call themselves religious. I get weary sometimes listening to the arguments for those that are for and against all things, vaccinations, abortion, student debt cancellation, political preferences. Just listening sometimes is all it takes to knock me out of rhythm. Do you ever feel that way? Like you’re just out of step or trying to catch up? We have so much to do at any given time. There are so many people that need help. There is so much destruction around the world from natural disasters and war, and that leads people to despair.

Yet right in the midst of all of this we get an invitation from Jesus. He is inviting us to come to Him. He is offering to put us back into the rhythm of life in Him. When we walk and work with Jesus, things just work. It’s so unforced it’s unnatural. Being with Jesus allows us to live freely and lightly despite the destruction and distress. That’s unnatural. See when we take Jesus up on His invitation He allows us to do things that are unnatural. We actually begin to live supernaturally. Peace in the middle of confusion. No, it’s not natural. It’s supernatural, and so is joy, strength, and love. So every time you feel tired, worn out, burned out, weary, or burdened, I don’t care if that’s every single day, just take Jesus up on His invitation. Meet up with Him. Keep company with Him. Live freely and lightly.

Jesus, this is me coming to You today. I am accepting Your invitation. Today, I want to walk with You and work with You. I want to learn from You and recover my life. Thank You for Your supernatural power in my life today. In Jesus’ Name...

An Invitation
Romans 8:28 The Voice
We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.

I love reading the Word in different translations because I understand that the English language cannot capture the meaning of Greek or Hebrew words in a word to word translation and that our language continues to evolve as we use it. So there are words that meant one thing 100 years ago and now have a different connotation. I also love that the Holy Spirit can use each and every translation to speak truth to my heart about that verse. Today, it is the end of this scripture that has caught my attention.

The God of the universe has extended us an invitation to live according to His plan. That is what conviction is. It is an invitation from God. When we feel convicted about something we did or something we said, it is not condemnation, it is an invitation. It is the Holy Spirit in His love calling us into the plan of God. It is how we enter into this good work of God. When we accept that invitation we can walk with God through everything with confidence and boldness. It is more than just saying we love God. It is entering into life with Him and living according to His plan.

Thank You Lord for inviting me to live according to Your plan. Thank You Holy Spirit for leading me into Your ways. Thank You for the plan You already have. Help me today to see how you are working and join in with You. In Jesus’ Name….

This God
Ephesians 3:16-21 NIV
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Today, we start a whole new month. It’s another measurement of time that we can use to evaluate what we’ve done or what we plan to accomplish in the next 30 days. You could be excited because it’s September or you may be discouraged because of what went on in August. Either way, it really doesn’t matter. What matters is this God Paul is praying to on our behalf. This God has love for us that surpasses knowledge yet Paul prays that we would be able to grasp and know it. I really love Psalm 46 that says that God is an ever present help in trouble. How does He do that? He fills us with the fullness of who He is. He comes and dwells in our hearts and pours out His Spirit to give us power.

It doesn’t matter what month it is, because God is still God. He is still able on September 1 to do exceeding abundantly above all I can ask or imagine. Time does not change God. He doesn’t get old or feeble. His power does not diminish. As a matter of fact, He created time and uses it however He wants to use it. When Joshua needed more time to win a battle He caused the daylight to extend. When Peter needed a catch after fishing all night He caused a harvest to happen in a moment. He pours His power into us through His Spirit and then uses that same power to do more than we can ask or imagine. God is working with you, and the things He does with that power will bring Him glory. So today, let the Lord use you! Let His power work in you! Be willing to participate with Him to accomplish exceeding abundantly above. Bring Him glory today.

Lord, thank You for calling me to You for such a time as this. Today, You have great plans. Use me as Your instrument. I choose You, so say what You need to say and do what You need to do to bring Glory to Your Name. In Jesus’ Name…

The Power of Choice (reminder)
Deuteronomy 30:15-16 MSG
Look at what I’ve done for you today: I’ve placed in front of you Life and Good Death and Evil. And I command you today: Love God, your God. Walk in his ways. Keep his commandments, regulations, and rules so that you will live, really live, live exuberantly, blessed by God, your God, in the land you are about to enter and possess.

Today, let’s remember the power we have in choosing! The Lord has set some amazing choices before us. We have Life and Good available, and every time we choose His way, to obey His commands, we choose to really live, live exuberantly, blessed by God. You cannot get better than that!

Here are a few reminders from yesterday. “There has not failed one good promise from the Lord!” Here’s the scripture so you can back that statement up with the Word. “Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses.” ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭8‬:‭56‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When you talk to the Lord, remember to tell Him, “You have promised me some eyes have not seen and ears have not heard.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬ says, “However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him—”

Since God is a good God, let Him show His goodness. Make choices that allow God to give you the life that really lives. Let’s get our minds right, so we can see what eyes haven’t seen and hear what ears haven’t heard!

Thank You Lord for setting choices before me. I choose You. I choose Your way of life. I choose to obey You. I choose to experience Your goodness and miracles today. In Jesus’ Name…

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Today is 8/28!! People put significance on days for all kinds of reasons, but today is a reminder that everything is working for you! God is the one that not only fights for you, He works for you. One way I have heard this scripture explained is like this. Everything is our employee. Everything works for us. Now take a moment and think about the employer/employee relationship. The employer gives the orders, has the expectations, and is in charge. The employee is expected to fulfill the expectations and get the work done.

Now, think about every situation, every obstacle, every mountain, and every barrier in your life. YOU are the employer. All things now work for you because you love the Lord. He orchestrates and causes them to work for you. You are called by God for His purpose. Nothing is going to stop the purpose of God for your life, so don’t get discouraged. Call those things that aren’t as though they were! Speak in faith! And today, on 8/28, expect things to work for you!

Thank You Lord for this reminder. Thank You for working everything for my good. Be glorified in my life today. I am expecting great things today. In Jesus’ Name…
