Our Story
In 1818 a fellowship formed where the church stands today. There was a fellowship outside of Bath also. Both churches disbanded and united as one on March 16, 1842. Twenty-one people signed the new covenant with the pastor, Rev. Moses Rowley. In 1843, at the same time the Village of Bath was incorporated, the new church was incorporated and given the name "First Baptist Society of Bath." A wooden church was built on the present Howell Street property in 1844. In 1887, the church was destroyed by fire, and the present brick and masonry structure was erected in 1888. Our pews remain from the original church. Sitting in those pews let's you know that people's stature of 100 years ago was not the same as people's stature today!
Through the years, there have been many people that stood out and up for the Lord's work. It would be a shame to mention a few and not others. There works will be noted on Judgment Day. It is sufficient to say God has used many people to do His work to lead others to salvation. Among the faithful have been pastors, choir leaders, board members, Sunday school teachers, as well as other Christians who saw needs and met them.
