Another Death in the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Uganda
“This young man passed away on Tuesday at nighttime in Panyadoli hospital within the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement in Bweyale. People are dying daily for the lack of care – poor medical treatments, lack of medicines, lack of food. Most of the people have a lot of stress and trauma because they don't get enough services in the refugee camp.
So, as Christians let us pray for our brothers and sisters who stay in refugee camps, because they face a lot of challenges. God will make a way to remove the suffering and bring new life for His people during this demonic time.
This is a brief report request: Please share this burden together as one family.” 🙏🙏

Through my interaction with students enrolled in our At Christ’s Table School of biblical studies, I have been learning about life in a refugee camp. With organized humanitarian aid dwindling, and increasing resettlements, food, health care, and education is lacking. And there is little to no opportunity for earning a living to provide for oneself and family. For these refugees there is no “going back” and very little hope of “going forward”. They are “stuck”. I summarize it as “Life in Suspended Animation”.
While we are commissioned to preach His gospel to the afflicted, only Jesus, Lord and Savior, can "set the captives free". Admittedly, we can do little to deliver refugees out of these refugee camps that they may become residents / citizens in some country where they can have a life of freedom and well-being. But, according to my personal experience: Christians in Western nations - if they even take time to become aware of their brethren in developing nations, may “like” the idea “helping the poor”, but do not follow through in even doing “little”. We need to remember what Jesus did with “five small barley loaves and two small fish”.
Am I trying to impose a “guilt trip”. No. I am trying to share a burden. The written words of God are sufficient to convince and convict. Obeying God's injunctions is within our ability and therefore is our responsibility. We will be asked to give an account when we stand before Him. Church (Ekklesia), God gave these injunctions to us – not to tax-supported human governments:
Proverbs 19:17 “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.”
Matthew 25:35-40 “For I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty, and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked, and you clothed me, I was sick, and you visited me, I was in prison, and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”
Philippians 2:4 “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
Hebrews 13:16 “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”
James 1:27 “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”
1 John 3:17 “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?”
