Su***de is a public health crisis and it is vital that faith communities respond. Next week is National Su***de Prevention Week and as such, the Chaplain's Office is offering a one day training for you.
Soul Shop is an interactive workshop that equips participants to care for those impacted by suicidal desperation. Soul Shop workshop attendees will learn:
How to prevent su***de in your community
The signs of su***de risk and warning signs
How to ask a person at risk if they might be thinking about su***de
How to be a companion to those experiencing su***de loss
About local and national resources available for su***de prevention
What the Bible has to say about su***de
How to integrate su***de prevention into your faith life
The workshop includes training in su***de awareness and basic conversation skills, and how to extend the invitation to those who have been suicidal in the past to share their stories. This workshop engages the question of how to cultivate a soul-safe culture within our campus community.
Soul Shop will be held Thursday, September 10 from 9 AM - 3:30 PM. Lunch is provided for attendees and there are break times built into the schedule. The location of the event will be shared when you sign up to participate. The workshop is open to all faculty, staff, and students.
If you are interested in joining the training, please email me to RSVP by 5 pm on Monday, September 7.
