3 MONTHS OF SERVICE! From meeting for the first time in the midst of an ice storm, to seeing God answer many prayers—this has been an exciting 3 months! Here are some highlights from last month:
•This church believes that children’s/student ministry is the key to evangelism in our community. In keeping with that priority, we have made plans to lead and staff Vacation Bible Schools in partnership with The Grace Place (at the GP facility June 8-11 and Sardis Presbyterian Church in July (final date TBA). May the Lord bring many children to attend and richly bless the preaching of the gospel during those weeks!
•As ambassadors of Jesus Christ, we now have mission partnerships locally and internationally ongoing with monthly financial investments and, in many instances, “hands on” service. Our international support goes directly to Biblically strong partners in Nigeria, India, Honduras, Panama and Guatamala. Our local missions support at present goes to The Grace Place, and The Way: Truth Discipleship Ministry, with more partnerships under review. Our church family will be hearing directly from these ministry partners throughout the year.
•Batesville Community Church this month formed a small team who will be assisting with ministry and outreach in the Panola County Jail. We are grateful to jail administrator Bobby Meek for facilitating the ministry there, and to Dr. Andy Garrott for letting us join his team with ongoing evangelism at the jail on Monday nights. We have another small team supporting our sister church (Koinonia Church) located inside Unit 30 at the state penitentiary at Parchman. We thank the MDOC chaplain’s department for their assistance in making this possible.
•Jason Covington this month laid out goals to the church to begin community groups in August, challenging believers to pray and prepare for both home-based groups and for small groups who will use property owned or leased by the ministry. From Colossians, Jason taught how these 5-to-6-family Bible study and fellowship groups can encourage our hearts and knit us together in love (Col. 2:1), and help us to be rooted in Christ (Col. 2:7).
We close out the monthly report with this: the simple, Scriptural goals of this new church are clarifying and settling into many hearts. These priorities of Batesville Community Church are:
1) Preach the Word!
2) Love each other well!
3) Love the community well!
These priorities can only be accomplished supernaturally, by means of the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe that Christ is the head of the church, and the indwelling life of Christ within the heart and life of every believer can be expressed forth by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Think of it! The very life of Christ, flowing from His church!
If you do not have a church home, we invite you to come visit! We meet Sundays at 10:30 at the Batesville Junior High Auditorium, located at 507 Tiger Drive in Batesville. If you have a church home, please pray for us, that Christ would be glorified!
