Job Description – Organist / Pianist / Accompanist
Description
We are seeking a part-time musician to bless us with organ and piano liturgy during two Sunday morning services, and to rehearse with and accompany our choir. Our church has a long history of valuing music and nurturing members to participate via choirs and performing ensembles. Proficiency performing on both piano and organ are expected.
Qualifications
* Accomplished in playing during services, particularly liturgy and hymn accompaniment
* Piano performance should excel, with comfort in many musical genres
* Organ performance should be strong, or presently adequate with the intent to master
* Ability to read open score desirable
* Bachelor’s degree in music
Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare and play for two similar liturgical services on Sunday mornings
* Accompany the choir at one weekly rehearsal during choir season
* Play for occasional extra rehearsals, special services and events
* Reserve first right of refusal for occasional weddings and funerals (separate compensation)
* Meet regularly with the Pastor and Director of Music to plan and coordinate the musical and liturgical life of the congregation
* Attend monthly evening Worship Team meetings
* Attendance at staff meetings desirable
* Provide expert knowledge of the organ and pianos related to maintenance and repair
Position Details
* Permanent, part-time position (10-15 hours per week)
* Seeking to fill as soon as possible
* Salary: $11,000 to $13,000

* Moller organ: eight ranks, two manuals; 1948 console, $70K restoration of wind chests in 2007
* Growing 40+ member choir
* Singing, musically sophisticated congregation
* Vibrantly live 1856 plaster sanctuary renovated in 2008 under guidance of an acoustics engineer to assure the acoustics would remain after the replacement of the ceiling (and building roof)
* Expectation of a near-term ~$80K capital campaign to replace the console
* Yamaha upright piano in sanctuary, three others elsewhere
