June 6 is the 82nd anniversary of D-Day. Before he passed away, my Uncle Bern said that he was in the force descending on the beaches of Normandy. "Invasion was imminent," he said. His sortie was one of the last --so just as he and his fellow soldiers were ready to launch, the beaches were secured and they were told to stand down. Uncle Bern graduated from high school and immediately went into the US Army. After he passed away, I found this small, pocket bible. It was the one issued to him as a G.I. The inside has a message from FDR.
