Appalachian Trail Outreach Ministry - ATOM ATOM began in 2002 as a desire to reach out to the stranger among us. We engage AT hikers as they come to us and welcome them into our midst in Christ's name

We are fortunate in that we don't need to go to the mission field, the mission field comes to us.

Can you go the extra half mile?

The Appalachian Trail becomes 1/2 mile longer in 2026 with a thru-hike total mile that now equals 2,197.9 miles.

The increase, according to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, is due to a half-mile addition in Virginia, specifically the War Spur relocation, which helps maintain the trail's integrity and sustainability.
