Crooked roads made straight.

No, I am not a mind reader, but I believe there are many that God is chasing. You may ask what I mean by that. Well let me explain. I remember the bar days, the BYOB’S, I remember who I was with, who I chose to hang out with. I also remember every time I went to a place I really had no business at, God showed up. Now don’t get offended, God goes in dark places to shed light on the darkness people are in. I recall, when I picked up the bottle or glass, God whispering in my ear, why are you doing this? I didn’t have an answer, other than I was fitting in and being excepted. I ran from God for 8 years. It is amazing what God will allow to happen in a persons life to get their attention. It was 1997, my wife was pregnant with our son. She was sitting on the couch and said I think my blood pressure is up. So, like a good husband I checked it. It was high, like 180/120. We were dressed for church it was a Sunday. That didn’t matter anymore. I called her doctor and we were advised to get to the hospital asap. Her doctor was in Tallahassee, so off we went, just to save time, yes our son was born that night, he was 2 ½ months early, he weighed 2 pounds 14.3 ounces and was 15 ½ inches long. My wedding band would go down his arm to his elbow. He is a healthy 29 year old man today. That is the jest of the story. Yes I am thankful everything turned out well. But in those moments there were doubts that there were no words for. You could tell me we praying, yeah that is good. But what I needed was some confirmation my son was going to make it. Folks you may be running from God, but when you hit a wall and you have no one to lean on but Him, that can give you hope, your life and attitude will begin to soften, you learn real quick this ole world throws curves that only God can carry you through. It was in those moments that I rededicated my life to God and accepted the call to preach. No, it wasn’t easy. Yes, I still have struggles. I am not perfect. I make mistakes. I have many errors on my stat sheet. I am saying this to let you know, you do not have to clean up to come to God. You come to God and He will clean you up. You put your life in His hands and allow Him to do the work He needs to do. He will take that dark sinful heart and wash it in the blood of Jesus and it will come out white as snow. Your life will begin a change process that will last the rest of your life. If you’re growing, you’re changing.

Romans 8:35-39 KJV
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? [36] As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. [37] Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Father God, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I am asking you to forgive me my sins and my wicked ways. I believe your Son Jesus, died and rose again for the remission of my sins. I accept Jesus as my Savior and Lord and I ask that Your will be done in my life from this point forward. Thank you for saving me, in Jesus name, amen.

What am I doing?

Matthew 9:35-38 KJV
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. [36] But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. [37] Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; [38] Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

We scheme, we set up, we tear down, we plan, we think, we turn, we build, we repair, we talk, we share, and in all these things how are we honoring God? Is honoring God on your to-do list? Not when you feel like it, not when it is convenient, not when it is comfortable, not when those around you accept it, not when it feels good and not when the time is right. If you dissect the Word of God and read deeper into it than what the shallow waters will reveal, we are all to be labourers of God’s harvest. We are all to go forth and be the salt and light of His Word and His presence. I don’t feel like it, I would rather. That is the problem. Do you think Jesus felt like praying till His sweat became as drops of blood? Do you think he enjoyed being sought after by those who wanted to harm Him? Do you think He enjoyed the stripes taken, the slaps to His face, His beard plucked out, the nails in His hands and feet, the sword in His side and the mocking He heard and yet He endured? We get up and just don’t feel like going, don’t feel like doing, ill, sleepy, tired, sore, and would rather make others miserable than find a little joy in the day God has given you. Today is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Rejoice, rejoice in the Lord, not in your feelings, but in your faith. Put faith over your feelings and you will find joy in serving God and doing for Him.

We make life difficult many times as individuals. Yes, I agree there are many things attempting to be created, implemented and put together, that go totally against the values of the church, but these are the days of our lives. God has you here today for a purpose. He has you here because He knows you are strong enough to walk through battles and win. The reason you feel like you are losing is because your eyes are on the wrong things. Quit consuming the news and consume the word of God. It is medicine for your soul. God is the only answer, nothing or nobody else. There is no president or political party that can fix this. I believe the church, the people need to be praying and fasting for this evil to be done away with and God be glorified. We talk about the victories and never the struggle. To blessed to be stressed, blessed and highly favored, if I was any happier, I would have to be twins. Yes we or you may here these things a lot. Do people struggle? Do pastors struggle? The answer is yes. We will not admit it many times because we feel it is a sign of weakness. Our pride builds a wall and we refuse to violate the parameters of that wall. However, the stress, the anxiety, the worry, doesn’t go away, it builds. If the wall gets tall enough you can’t keep it from tumbling, because mine and your strengths are limited. So, do you have a friend you trust? Do you have a spouse you trust? Open up, you will be amazed at the freedom it will give you. I am no theologian, I don’t have a degree in counseling, but I have learned through my 55 years it is better to open up and let it out, than to keep it all bottled up. Let it out, so the flow of the Spirit has room to work, bottle it up, you or we are just waiting on the next explosion. What happens when something explodes? It is usually destroyed. Stress and anxiety will do it’s best to destroy you. It will tell you alcohol or drugs is the answer. It will tell you just pull the trigger and it will all be over. The sad part is people listen to the demons of stress and anxiety. I stress at times what I am going to preach on the next Sunday. I hear pastors say, you don’t have a calendar? A calendar, what are you talking about. They will say I have my sermons laid out for the year. I think that is good, but I have never been taught or told to do that. I am not saying they are wrong, but maybe my faith hasn’t reached that level yet. If I must be transparent, I do struggle. I struggle with looks from the congregation, facial expressions. I think every church goer should be required to stand on the platform with the Pastor and just observe. You would say, I don’t know how you do this every week. Anyway, I will get off my soapbox and leave you with this as a reminder of God’s faithfulness.

1 Peter 5:6-11 NKJV
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, [7] casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. [8] Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. [9] Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. [10] But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. [11] To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

We invite you to come and be with us for our Sunday Service. We ain’t perfect and never claimed to be. We make mistakes, stub our toes and bite our tongues, but God’s grace is sufficient for all of us. You don’t have to dress up for Jesus. Come as you are.

What if?

If the church was perfect none of us would fit in. If the church did everything right, we would feel a little intimidated, due to our sinfulness. I have heard people say, well, I would go but so and so. I would go but I need to get some things in order first. I don’t know anyone there. All sound like good excuses but they’re not. You go to restaurants, grocery stores, department stores and who do you know there? Jesus didn’t wait to come to earth because everything was perfect. He came in the middle of a mess. Just as He came into a mess 2000 years ago, He wants to come into your mess today. We serve a God that ain’t afraid to get His hands dirty. He wants to be a part of your mess. Why? Because He has the ability to clean it up and bring restoration to your life. Excuses will get you know where except further into the dark. I just want to encourage you today, push through, grab hold of the hem of His garment and receive the healing you need.
