From the first Passover in Egypt to the upper room with Jesus, God was revealing a covenant that would go far deeper than ceremony. The lambs of the old covenant could cover for a moment, but they could not fully remove sin. They were always pointing to the Lamb who was coming.
When Jesus took the bread and the cup, He was not starting another religious system. He was announcing a covenant written on hearts, carried by the Spirit, and secured by His own blood. The cross accomplished what no other altar could. His sacrifice does not need to be repeated, because His blood is enough.
