Join us for 3 Monday nights in January, 2, 9, & 16 from 6-8pm in the cafe for soup and salad as we explore the hope offered to us through Christ.

There are few emotions more powerful than hope. But these days, hope often feels hard to come by. Where can we find a hope that won’t disappoint us?

Hope Explored looks at the life, death and resurrection of Jesus in Luke’s Gospel, this three-session series shows that Christianity is about real hope: a joyful expectation for the future, based on true events in the past, which changes everything about my present.

Hope Explored is an informal and relaxed 3 week course. It's for anyone who wants to find hope, peace and purpose in life. You don't need to know anything about the Bible and you won't be asked to pray or sing. You can ask any question you like, or you can just sit and listen.

Whoever you are, whatever you are thinking, Hope Explored is a place for you to discover the hope of a future that is better than you could ever imagine.

For the past 2 years we have followed the Five Day Bible Reading Plan to read through the entire Bible in a year. It is a good plan, it is my favorite read the Bible in a year plan.

But this year these wonderful folks have come out with a Bible reading plan called "A Year with Paul"

"We will read Paul’s life story and Paul’s writing and consider them together. This kind of purposeful reading will grant us better insights into what Paul means as we consider who Paul was.
You will not find the daily readings very lengthy. That is intentional because an essential part of this year’s reading plan is that you ask and answer key questions (see the back of the Reading Schedule) every day. This will keep you on track with our purpose: seeing the New Testament through Paul’s eyes."

I am excited to do this more focused reading in 2023! Will you join me?

Printed copies are available at the church, or email me([email protected]) your email address and I can send you a pdf attachment!

The regular Five Day Bible Reading Plan is also available for 2023- again, printed copies at the church or I will email you the pdf if you prefer.

Whatever plan we prefer, it is so important to be in God's Word daily!

This week we begin reading the prophet Isaiah, a good place to jump in!

Introduction to Isaiah -

Isaiah is considered by many to be the greatest of all the prophets. The New Testament quotes or alludes to his work over 60 times, showing Isaiah’s huge impact, especially in Messianic prophecy. He was the dominant prophetic voice from 750-700 BC counseling kings at critical times and preaching to a nation that needed to return to God.

Isaiah 1 introduces us to this grand book. In many ways this chapter is an excellent summary of the entire book. The language reads like a lawsuit, as God puts forth His case against a sinful nation loaded with guilt (verses 2-9). The people do not know God (verse 3). Verse 7 may reference Sennacherib and his dreadful invasion. God calls for repentance (verses 10-20) showing what He desires: loyalty to the covenant and pure hearts. Vain worship is specifically attacked as useless and offensive to the Lord (verses 11-18). Notice how verses 19-20 say “eat or be eaten!” Verses 21-30 announce that a purging of these unfaithful people is imminent.

Chapter 2 contains the amazing prophecy of the wonderful future for Jerusalem (verses 1-4). God will judge Judah, but He is by no means through with Judah. At a Pentecost far distant God’s ultimate purpose of bringing all people to Him (through the Gospel) will begin to be realized (see Acts 2). Isaiah often varies between the immediate crisis and the far future where there was hope for great things. As fast as verses 1-5 leave us breathless with excitement Isaiah returns to the current time when judgment was com- ing on a people who knew not God (verses 6-22).

Chapter 3 features more descriptions of the chaos and anarchy in Judah. Verses 1-15 especially single out the leadership in Judah for their failures. The situation will be so bad no one will want to be a leader (verses 6-7). Note the emphasis on oppressing the poor (verse 15). All the riches so many enjoyed would not spare them from God’s judgment (verses 16-4:1).
