Today at Immanuel UCC, we reflected on Sarah’s laughter in Genesis 18 and 21.

When God’s promise seemed impossible, Sarah laughed. Yet God transformed her laughter of disbelief into laughter of joy. Her son was named Isaac, which means “laughter.”

May we remember this week that God is still bringing hope, joy, and new possibilities into our lives.

Because sometimes laughter is more than laughter, it is hope waking up and joy catching up with us.

No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.

On this Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. We hold their memory with gratitude and reverence, acknowledging the profound sacrifice of those who served and the enduring grief carried by families, friends, and communities who remember them.

As people of faith, we entrust all who mourn to God’s compassionate care, remembering the promise that “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). In this sacred act of remembrance, may we be drawn into deeper gratitude for the gift of life, the courage of sacrifice, and the hope of God’s abiding presence even in sorrow.

May this day call us not only to remembrance, but also to lives marked by compassion, reconciliation, and a commitment to being instruments of God’s healing in a wounded world. And may we walk forward with humility, honoring the memory of those we remember today by living with faith, love, and hope.

On this day of Pentecost, join us as we pray:

O Lord God, on this day you open the hearts of your faithful people by sending

into us your Holy Spirit. Direct us by the light of that Spirit, that we may have a right judgment in all things and rejoice at all times in your peace, through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord, who lives

and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
