🦋💜 TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY — SHELBIE

Today, we’re honored to share Shelbie Spencer story.

Her story began long before addiction.

After being abandoned by her mother and moved from home to home, Shelbie experienced physical, sexual, mental, and emotional abuse. At just 11 years old, she found ma*****na as a way to escape the pain.

Eventually, that escape became a full-blown addiction to he**in and m**h.

She faced serious charges. She struggled to get clean. And even when she wanted a different life, she couldn't seem to find her way there.

Then someone gave her the push she needed.
Her probation officer required her to go to rehab.

Today, Shelbie says:
“I thank her for that push every day!!” ❤️‍🩹

On May 5th, Shelbie celebrated FOUR YEARS clean and in recovery. 🦋

And look at what those four years have brought her:

👩‍👧‍👧 Her two beautiful daughters
🏡 A beautiful home
💼 A job and title she once never believed she was worthy of
🎓 Her GED
✨ Graduation from community sentencing
🙏 A deeper faith
💙 A life in recovery
🤝 Membership in Narcotics Anonymous

And she's honest about som**hing important:
Recovery doesn't mean life suddenly becomes perfect.
There are still struggles.

But Shelbie says:

“My worst day clean is still WAY better than my ‘best day’ in addiction.”

THAT is transformation. 🦋

It's choosing to keep going when life gets hard.
It's rebuilding what you thought was lost.

It's becoming the mother, daughter, employee, friend, and person you once weren't sure you could be.

It's doing things you never thought possible.

And it's realizing that your past doesn't get to determine what your future looks like.

Shelbie believes that with God, anything is possible.

And today, she's living proof that a second chance can become an entirely different life. 💜🩵

Thank you, Shelbie, for trusting us with your story and for reminding someone who may be struggling right now:

There IS hope. Keep going. Your story isn't over. 🦋

💬 Do you have a transformation story of your own?

It doesn't have to be about addiction or recovery. Maybe you've rebuilt your family, gone back to school, left an unhealthy situation, found your purpose, started a career, healed from som**hing painful, or accomplished som**hing you never thought you could.

We want to celebrate it. 💙

Send C&E a message and share your story.

Get Better. • Do Better. • Be Better.

“How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered! How blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit! When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away Through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I did not hide; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”; And You forgave the guilt of my sin.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭32‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭NASB

Thank you, Jesus!! 🙌🏻 Great is your faithfulness!

🦋💜 TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY 💜🦋

Meet Josh.

Today, we're sharing a story about second chances, recovery, fatherhood, and hope.

Josh started drinking and using drugs around the age of 16. By 18, he was headed to prison.

Anger, drugs, and alcohol eventually led to 15 years behind bars.

Then, three years ago, Josh experienced an overdose.

By the grace of God, he's still here. 💙

And he decided to ask for another chance at the life he'd been given.

Three years later, his life looks completely different.

Today, Josh is:

💙 In recovery
💙 A father to his boys
💙 A son to his parents
💙 Living a life of purpose
💙 Using his experiences to be an example to others

And perhaps the most powerful part of his story is this:

“Because there is hope… it’s inside of you… it wants to shine… SO LET IT.” ✨✨✨

Josh's story is a reminder that your past does not get to decide your future.

15 years behind bars didn't get the final word.
Addiction didn't get the final word.
Anger didn't get the final word.
An overdose didn't get the final word.

Josh is still here. And he's living his second chance. 🦋

During September of Second Chances, we're celebrating stories exactly like this — stories that remind us that recovery can lead somewhere beautiful.

And remember, transformation doesn't have to look the same for everyone.

Maybe your transformation is recovery.
Maybe it's rebuilding your family.
Maybe it's finding yourself again.
Maybe it's getting an education.
Maybe it's learning to love yourself.
Maybe it's simply making it through som**hing you never thought you'd survive.

Whatever your transformation looks like…

LET IT SHINE. 💜🩵

Thank you, Josh, for trusting C&E with your story. And thank you for reminding someone else that there is hope. 💙

🦋 Do you have a transformation story?
We'd love to hear it. Send us a message and let us celebrate your journey with you.
