Our lay delegates recently represented Bartlesville First United Methodist Church at Annual Conference.

But Annual Conference isn't just about reports, votes, and business meetings. It's also a time of worship, learning, connection, and discovering where God is at work across our conference.

We asked our delegates a simple question:

"What stood out to you?"

Take a few minutes to hear their reflections, surprises, and moments of inspiration from this year's gathering.

An Invitation to Remember Your Worth and Your Mission

We roared off into our new message series this past Sunday, called Route 66: A Road Trip through Scripture.

I described a couple of goals for the series, as follows:
• First, to help give people a big picture view of the Bible regardless of their biblical understanding and experience.
• And second, to show how the major themes of scripture tie together (such as creation, covenant, and church) through God’s desire for relationship with each of us.

Our first stop on the road trip was “Creation Corner,” where we learned that God created with purpose and excellence. We also explored what it means for us to be created in God’s image and for God to have entered our human story in Jesus, “the Word made flesh.”

My invitation to you this week is to make the first order of the day a reminder that you are God’s creation, and that is a good thing! Then, follow that up by offering some area of your life (a relationship, your work, some ongoing challenge, etc.) to God to work through.

This coming Sunday, we will visit “Sin City” (but not for too long!). Because, like creation, how we understand sin is important for understanding much of the rest of scripture.

I want to take this opportunity to remind you of a couple of other things, too.
• First, when you are traveling, you can watch the worship service live or later (for free) on YouTube under “Bartlesville First United Methodist Church.”
When you do, giving a “Thumbs Up” and leaving a comment really helps our prevalence on You Tube, so please “like,” subscribe, and comment as a way to help our mission!
• Second, the Cornerstone newsletter is delivered via email on Thursdays now. Please do not just click the email, then move on. Read through it; this is also a way to help our mission. Plus, it is chock-full of information we work hard to make sure is relevant.

I hope to see you Sunday!

Church is more than an hour on Sunday.

It's also:

• Swinging a hammer.

• Measuring twice and cutting once.

• Giving up a weekend (or in this case a Tuesday and Wednesday) to help someone you've never met.

• Responding when a need appears.

• Loving your neighbor in practical ways.

Recently, a handful of volunteers from our church family spent two days building an accessibility ramp for members of our community. The photos tell the story better than we can.

Thank you to those who quietly serve and remind us that sometimes the most powerful ministry happens outside the walls of the church.

Things are about to get aerodynamic this Sunday. ✈️

In celebration of National Paper Airplane Day, we're hosting our first-ever—and hopefully not last-ever—Paper Airplane Invitational!

Join us during Coffee & Community as folks of all ages fold, fly, cheer, laugh, and maybe get just a little competitive. We'll have paper airplanes ready to go, plenty of paper for creating your own, and templates available for those who prefer a little guidance before takeoff.

Our Sunday morning schedule:
☕ Small Groups – 9:00 AM
✈️ Coffee & Community (and the Paper Airplane Invitational!) – 10:00 AM
⛪ Worship – 10:30 AM

Come for worship, stay for coffee, community, and questionable flight patterns.

All ages welcome. No aviation experience required.

A few familiar faces representing Bartlesville First United Methodist Church at this year's Oklahoma Annual Conference.

Annual Conference is a chance for United Methodists from across Oklahoma to gather for worship, fellowship, learning, and the work of the Church. We're thankful for those who gave their time to participate and help represent our congregation.

Now they're home, hopefully with full hearts and new ideas.

Coming Soon: A Road Trip and a Paper Airplane Air Show

As I connect with you between Sundays, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Rev. Richard Whetsell for filling the pulpit in my absence. His Pentecost message was timely and thoughtful.

As we move into the summer season, I am excited to begin our new message series this Sunday: Route 66: A Road Trip Through Scripture. (And no, I will not be preaching on all 66 books of the Bible in just 10 weeks!) This series will explore the Bible’s central themes and the way they connect, helping us see the grand story and overall flow of Scripture.

We will begin, appropriately, "in the beginning," with creation. While the Bible is not primarily focused on the mechanics of creation, it has much to say about its meaning—and that is where we will begin.

Also, this Sunday, we will enjoy a paper airplane “air show” during Coffee Time between small groups and worship, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Yes, you read that correctly!

The idea came about after a lighthearted joke in the office about having a plane contest. Then, as if on cue, we discovered that this week included National Paper Airplane Day. Naturally, that inspired us to turn the idea into a fun fellowship activity. We will have origami paper and even folding patterns available for anyone who wants to join in but needs a little design inspiration.

I am also looking forward to our summer movie series. You can read more about that in this week’s Cornerstone newsletter, so be sure to watch for that.

Let’s make this a wonderful summer of ministry and connection together.

I hope to see you Sunday!

Pastor Terry

Things are starting to come together for Snowball Mountain Challenge VBS, and we are already having so much fun planning! ❄️🏔️

Ms. Amber and a few of our Youth got together for a snack-planning session this week, which means important VBS business is officially happening. 😂 There were lots of ideas, lots of laughter, and probably a few debates over the best snack choices.

We can’t wait for July to get here! VBS is one of our favorite weeks of the summer, and we would love for your kids — and your friends’ kids — to be part of it.

Our youth recently spent time at Bartlesville Assisted Living playing games, sharing stories, and building friendships across generations. 💙

One highlight was playing dominos with Vickie, who shared about the many ways she has faithfully served through the church over the years. Moments like these remind us that kindness, presence, and conversation matter deeply.

Sometimes ministry looks as simple — and meaningful — as making sure someone feels seen and loved.
