This weekend at First Wesleyan Church will be one we will never forget.
After 35 years of faithful pastoral ministry, Pastor Joe Colaw will preach his final sermon as Lead Pastor of First Wesleyan Church. It is also the conclusion of our Colossians sermon series — a series that has continually pointed us back to the supremacy, sufficiency, and transforming power of Jesus Christ.
In Colossians 4:7–18, Paul closes his letter with what first appears to be a list of names and final greetings. But hidden within those final words is something much deeper: the heartbeat of a pastor, the beauty of Gospel-centered community, and the legacy of lives faithfully lived together for Christ.
In this powerful farewell message, “The Gospel Lived… and Left Behind,” Pastor Joe reflects on ten characteristics of a healthy church — a church that informs, encourages, welcomes, comforts, prays for, strengthens, and remembers one another. It is a message about living the Gospel together… and faithfully passing the mission on to the next generation.
This will be more than a sermon.
It will be a sacred moment of gratitude, blessing, transition, and hope for the future God has prepared for our church family.
Join us Sunday as we worship together, celebrate God’s faithfulness through Pastor Joe and Dawn Marie’s ministry, and look ahead with confidence to what Christ will continue to do through His Church.
“The church does not rest on one man. It rests on Jesus Christ.”
