As a young soldier, Zaynar fought in the Iran-Iraq War (1980–88) and participated in numerous other wars and conflicts, eventually reaching the rank of general in the Iraqi army. But as Zaynar reached the pinnacle of his career, a different kind of battle raged inside his heart and mind. Though raised a Muslim, he was drawn to the Christian message of God’s love. On Oct. 16, 2017, he stood at the door of a church wearing his full military uniform and entered. “It was the day everything changed,” he said; it was the day he became a follower of Christ. Today, Zaynar loves to tell others the reason his life was changed. “I am learning that our life is to share the gospel,” he said. Having lived as a soldier for so long, he isn’t afraid to carry out Christ’s Great Commission. But Zaynar does have concerns for his family and requested prayer for their safety.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court of Finland found Päivi Räsänen guilty under a legal statute concerning “War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity.” Räsänen has been a member of Finland’s parliament since 1995 and is a former Minister of the Interior for the nation. Her “crime” was writing lessons for her church clearly communicating what the Bible says about human sexuality.

The criminal case against Räsänen—a medical doctor, wife and grandmother—began in 2019 when she posted a picture to social media showing her Bible open to Romans 1:24-27, with a caption asking why her church’s leaders had signed on to co-sponsor a “Pride” event. A police investigation recommended no charges be brought; the prosecutor brought charges anyway and then appealed not one but two lower-court findings of innocence.

“The Lord helped me and saved me,” says Sahir. He had been kidnapped by the self-proclaimed Islamic State (ISIS) and was tortured for months in Iraq. Sahir prayed in the name of all the prophets of Islam to be released from his imprisonment and suffering. “Before even knowing Jesus Christ, I was asking the [Christian] God, ‘I want you to help me,’” he recalled. Eventually, Sahir was thrown away, nearly dead. A Christian family found him and nursed him secretly until his health was restored enough for travel. He recalled little of that month with them, but he did remember the picture of Jesus on their wall and the food this family shared with him and their loving care as he healed. He reunited with his wife and family. Years later, Sahir finally entered a Christian church, where God began working in his life and delivered him from the anger and alcoholism that overtook him after his torture. “Now we live the best life,” Sahir said about his family. “We are a family for Christ, and I believe that Jesus takes care of us.”

Pastor Sang Te received a 23-year prison sentence after he was arrested by Myanmar military authorities on Sept. 16, 2021, accused of having connections with resistance groups. Sang Te has been in prison four years and shared the gospel freely among the male inmates, and 60 prisoners have come to faith in Christ. Pray for Sang Te’s continued spiritual strength, endurance and joy in the Lord during his imprisonment; for comfort and provision for his family and church community; that the gospel will continue to spread among prisoners through Sang Te’s witness; and for truth, justice and mercy in Sang Te’s case.
