Emotion Regulation :
In order to begin to regulate our emotions we first have to identify our emotions.

In order to identify and name our emotions we need to be aware of our emotions.

This isn't always obvious.

The feeling wheel below made by Joshua and Patty Freedman goes from the 8 basic emotions in the 'Plutchik Wheel' to a bigger range of more subtle and complex feelings.

You can get a high resolution version and explanation from Six Seconds' Practicing EQ eBook. (Google this).

A suggestion is to start at the outside and notice a feeling, then work toward the middle to make more sense of it... or visa versa.

To begin to make sense of all these feelings: Remember, EVERY feeling has value. It's a message from you, for you.

Not something to blindly obey, but a message to consider.

Our relationships can either lift us up or drag us down.

While we all need close connections with others, sometimes the people we let into our lives end up causing more pain than support. You can let go of that pain and move forward.

Use that pain as fuel and motivation for change by building your boundaries and addressing the roots of your pain.
