If you feel like throwing in the towel and giving up, please don’t.

There are so many stories in the Bible of people who had to wait for their breakthrough. What if your breakthrough is right around the corner? The next journal entry could be the one. The next 1-day chip could be your last!

“And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Romans‬ ‭5:2-4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

An abusive relationship erodes our self-trust. Because the abusive person works hard to make you doubt yourself.

Why do they want to do that?

Well, if they can cause your self-trust to be shaky, then it will be easier to mistreat you. 😣

And when your self-trust is eroded, you won’t believe yourself when you think you are being treated badly.

So now they can get away with it.

You’ll defer to their interpretation of events, their emotions, their judgments.

And that allows them to keep you “in your place.”

It’s terrible, isn’t it? 😭💔

No, the abuse was NOT your fault.

But they’ll try to make you believe it is.

So it’s no surprise that later, when we finally get free from the abusive situation, the internal lack of self-trust often continues.

Which makes sense. After all, abuse causes deep wounding.

But how can we heal when we are too busy believing it was all our fault? 😭

This lack of self-trust can show up as self-blame, poor self-esteem or self-doubt.

You may feel highly critical of yourself, struggle to feel confident, or get bogged down with depression or anxiety whenever you need to make decisions.

My compassionate friend, know this:

There is nothing wrong with you for having perfectly normal reactions and responses following an abusive relationship.

Abuse causes harm. ❤️‍🩹

And there is no shame in needing time to heal.

Healing is possible.

You can learn to trust yourself again.

And you are worthy of getting the help that you need.

❤️

🍂 SEPTEMBER IS A NEW SEASON 🍂

A new month doesn’t mean everything suddenly gets easier, but it can remind us that God is still working, we’re still growing, and our recovery story is still being written.

This September, let’s remember:

S — Surrender your past and step into God’s plan.
E — Embrace change and trust His timing.
P — Persevere through challenges with faith.
T — Thank God for every blessing, big and small.
E — Encourage others and build up the body of Christ.
M — Make time for prayer, worship, and His Word.
B — Believe God is working even when you can’t see it.
E — Extend grace to yourself and to others.
R — Rest in His promises and rejoice in your new life.

Recovery is not about having everything figured out. It’s about continuing to take the next right step with Jesus and your Forever Family beside you.

📖 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

Whatever August looked like, September is another opportunity to keep moving forward.

🌱 One day at a time. One step closer to freedom.

🙌 We are Celebrate Recovery.
❤️ And recovery is better together.

Growth asks you to grieve before it lets you move forward.

You can’t fully receive what’s next while you’re still holding onto what was. Let yourself grieve it, then make room for what’s coming.

🌱 What if your story isn’t over?

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
— Isaiah 43:19

Sometimes recovery feels like nothing is changing.
Sometimes we’re so focused on what was that we miss what God is doing right now.

Your past may be part of your story, but it doesn’t have to be the end of it.

God is still writing. God is still restoring. God is still making things new.

What is one “new thing” you’re hoping God will do in your life?
