The final areas for the project have been laid and today the construction areas are being cleaned up. It will be a few weeks for the cement to fully dry and harden. We ask that people please do not walk on our drive over the cement. No vehicles other than authorized vehicles for the Cemetery should ever be driving over the curbs but we just ask everyone to take extra care while it dries. Thank you again to the County of San Bernardino and the City of Barstow for helping with such an important phase of this project. Advanced Engineering have taken the time and care with this project that we would expect we are so grateful for their work. Thank you so much to everyone who has been involved.

Trees and plants that are currently on the grounds in the areas that have been landscaped. Theses trees and plants are all drought tolerant and native to the area. They are continuing to grow and are still not fully mature. Trees and plants with colorful blooms will be used in every area as we continue the project. We are still a work in progress, but just like these trees and plants we are just going to get better with time.

Great News! The project to install cement curbing around the remaining areas that require curbing in order to place the fines will begin on Monday June 22, 2026. Thank you again to the office of Paul Cook and the City of Barstow for their help funding and overseeing this project. We are excited for this step towards progress in finishing this landscaping project.

Thank you to the Barstow Fire Department, the City of Barstow, and the VFW for their help today with our American Flag. Our cable for raising and lowering the flag broke and the backside of our flag was coming apart. Today the City and the Fire Department came out to aid us in getting the cable restrung. Rick Oakley and the VFW donated a new cable and a flag. This was the epitome of teamwork and we can now proudly fly the flag at the Memorial Day service. Thank you!!!! The Barstow Cemetery would like to thank Burrtec for their donation of 10 thousand dollars to the landscape conversion project. Also thank you to the City of Barstow and Tex Williams for facilitating the meeting of Burrtec and the Cemetery Manager to make this partnership possible. We are extremely thankful and every bit counts. Thank you Burrtec for hearing the problem and stepping up to be a part of the solution. This is such an important project to the community and your contribution matters.

We just ask that the public remember every donation is important no matter how you feel personally about the amount. These companies and the City of Barstow are not responsible for the Cemetery, and their help is not required. If every hand that reaches out to help gets bit, fewer and fewer hands will reach out. The community showing appreciation and positivity for these donations will help encourage others to want to be a part of this project rather than turn from it for fear of backlash.

Thank you again Burrtec and we hope to be able to work with you again in the future.

Update on the Cemetery Curbing Project.

The City of Barstow acting as project manager has awarded the bid to a contractor for the curbing project. Next week the City of Barstow will meet with the Cemetery and contractor to discuss the work being done and a start date.
The start date and ESTIMATED date of completion will be shared on our page as well as our website.

This curbing is crucial in the next phase of the project. This will allow the "crushed fines" to be laid out around the headstones that currently sit on top of the ground. The curbing is needed so they can be laid and compacted properly and wont spill out.

The Cemetery is so thankful to the City of Barstow for their hand as project managers and providing the additional funding. As well to the County of San Bernardino through the office of Paul Cook for their contribution of the main funds being used for this specific phase that allowed this curbing project to be possible.

The Cemetery is not owned or funded by the City of Barstow or the County of San Bernardino. Both entities have contributed to the project because they see the value and know how important our Cemetery is to the community.

This will be one of the biggest impacts made during this conversion project and we are so excited to see the progress continuing. If you have any questions please call the office at 760-256-2797.

Update on the curbing project.

The bids for the curbing project closed on April 22nd 2026

The bid will be awarded to a contractor on May 5th 2026.

After the bid is awarded there will be a meeting to discuss the job and set a start date.

The cemetery is very excited for this phase of the project as we hope it will help complete a large portion of the landscaping conversion. Once the curbing is placed around the remaining blocks the “fines” can be back filled and compacted correctly with the curbing to hold them in place.

We will keep the community updated as much as possible. Notice will be posted of any areas that will be worked on and if removal of decorations is necessary to give families a chance to remove their decorations if needed.

If you have any questions please call the office at 760-256-2797

The start of our succulent garden on the niches. Thank you so much to the Newberry Springs Garden Club for their donation of a succulent garden. Also to Tim Sluder for his donation from his own succulents to add to the garden. These are not full grown plants yet and will continue to grow and fill in but we are excited to see this contribution flourish and bring beauty to the Cemetery.
