Day 10 (May 10): Ministry Beyond Church Walls
Theme: All of life is ministry
We've relegated "ministry" to church buildings and official programs. But 1 Corinthians 12 describes the body of Christ functioning everywhere, not just in sanctuaries on Sundays.
Your gifts operate at work, in your neighborhood, at the gym, online, in the grocery store. Hospitality opens your home to neighbors. Encouragement speaks life to coworkers. Teaching mentors young people. Mercy serves the homeless.
Ministry isn't what happens at church—it's what happens when the church scatters into the world.
Deeper Study:
Acts 8:4 describes persecution scattering believers who "preached the word wherever they went"
The early church met in homes, marketplaces, and public spaces
Your workplace, neighborhood, and social circles are your mission field
Biblical Support:
Colossians 3:23 - "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."
Matthew 5:16 - "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
Acts 1:8 - "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
1 Peter 2:9 - "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."
Application:
Identify your primary non-church environments (work, neighborhood, gym, etc.). How can you use your gifts to minister there this week? Be specific and take one action.
