Join us for Somali 101!
This Saturday, December 1, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Barron County Government Center.
For the second year in a row, we are teaming up with UW-Extension to offer an excellent event to help us learn more about and engage with our Somali neighbors! Somali 101 is free but you must pre-register at [email protected] as space is limited! Hope to see you there...

As we move into Fall 2018, we are excited about continuing opportunities to serve and connect with our Somali neighbors. We continue to offer English classes, one-on-one tutoring, weekly time for students grades K-12 to hang out, practice English and do homework, as well as a men's outreach. We are blessed with a growing group of volunteers, each bringing new ideas and enthusiasm! God is good!

Hope to see you tonight at Anderson Park! It's a casual potluck with the entree (tacos) being provided by the Well's Board. Feel free to bring fruit or a topping if you want, but you don't need to! Just bring yourself!

The Well is looking for someone who can serve as administrator. The role will only require a few hours a week. Responsibilities include: checking our PO box, depositing checks, making payments, keeping records via Quickbooks Online, and making sure the Well is up-to-date on all government requirements.

Our current administrator will teach you all the processes and make sure you are confident with the responsibilities before they depart. The role of the administrator is vital for The Well to keep functioning as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. You can make a difference in the community by serving in this administrative role!

Many of our Somali neighbors were fearful this past Tuesday. A poster was sent in the UK promoting "Punish a Muslim Day" to take place on April 3. Posts on Facebook and elsewhere encouraged violence towards Muslims. Our Somali neighbors believed this threat to be real enough that many Somali students did not attend school that day.

The Well absolutely condemns any violence, period, and especially any hostility motivated by race or religion. The Well is a safe place where we seek to exemplify the love of Christ through all we do. We strive to promote friendships where people feel safe and welcome to share their views and ask questions regarding their faith.

We don't believe anyone in Barron would commit violent acts towards Muslims (and nobody did), but we wanted to share with you that such a threat was perceived as a very real possibility. While many Somalis went about their day knowing that they were safe here, there were still families who feared for their safety.
