SEEK THE WELFARE OF THE CITY
God’s instruction is surprising: seek the welfare of the place where you are, even if it is not the place you wanted to be.

Faith does not turn inward during hard seasons. God calls the people to bless their neighbors, pray for their community, and contribute to the common good. Even in exile, they can become a sign of God’s grace.

What would it look like for you to bless the community around you this week?

BUILD AND PLANT
God tells the exiles to build houses, plant gardens, and make a life where they are. This is not resignation. It is faithful courage.

Sometimes hope looks like staying engaged instead of shutting down. It looks like planting something good, even when the soil is unfamiliar. God’s people are invited to live fully, not just wait for things to go back to the way they were.

Do one small thing today that invests in the place, people, or season God has placed before you.

WHEN CHANGE IS NOT CHOSEN
Judah did not choose exile. They did not choose disruption, loss, or life in a place that did not feel like home. And yet, God speaks to them there.

Jeremiah 29 reminds us that God does not wait for life to feel settled before calling us to faithfulness. Even in unwanted change, God is present, active, and still inviting us to live with purpose.
Where are you being asked to trust God in a season you would not have chosen?

Do Not Be Afraid

“Do not fear or be dismayed,” Moses says. These words are not a dismissal of real concerns. They are an invitation to trust God in the middle of them.

Fear often grows when we feel alone. But Deuteronomy 31 reminds us that God will not fail us or forsake us. We can face change because God’s presence is not temporary.

What fear do you need to place into God’s hands today?

Leadership Changes, God Remains

Moses’ leadership is ending, and Joshua’s is beginning. That is a big change for Israel. But God’s promise remains unchanged.

Leaders matter. Seasons matter. Transitions matter. But our deepest trust belongs to God. When human leadership shifts, the unchanging presence of God continues to guide, sustain, and hold the community together.

Pray today for leaders in seasons of transition, and for the people learning to move forward together.

GOD GOES BEFORE YOU

Before Joshua leads and before Israel crosses over, God goes ahead of them. That is the promise Moses gives: the Lord will cross before you.

We often want proof that everything will work out before we move forward. But faith teaches us to trust that God is already at work in the places we have not yet reached.

How might it change your perspective to believe God is already present in the future you are worried about?

Courage for the Next Step

Moses tells the people, “Be strong and bold.” Courage is needed because the road ahead is new. But courage is possible because they are not walking alone.

Biblical courage is not pretending we are fearless. It is choosing to trust that God’s presence is stronger than our anxiety. The future may be unfamiliar, but God is already there.
Name one place where you need courage today, then offer it to God in prayer.

WHEN SEASONS CHANGE

In Deuteronomy 31, Moses prepares Israel for a major transition. The leader who has guided them through wilderness years will not be the one to lead them into the land ahead.

God does not pretend change is easy. But God does remind the people where their true stability is found not in one leader, one season, or one familiar way of doing things, but in the presence of the Lord who goes before them.

What helps you remember God’s faithfulness when life enters a new season?

NEVER WALKING ALONE
The heart of Abram and Sarai’s story is not just the promise of a new land, but the presence of the God who goes with them. Our hope is not in knowing exactly what’s ahead, but in knowing Who walks beside us every step of the way.

As you prepare for worship tomorrow, where do you most need to remember that you are not walking alone?

“And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:20b

FAITH IN STRANGER PLACES
Abram walked through a land already occupied by others, unsure how God’s promise would unfold there. We, too, sometimes find ourselves in “stranger places”—new jobs, new diagnoses, new roles—wondering how God’s word could possibly be true here.

Where does life feel unfamiliar right now, and how might you watch for signs of God’s presence right in the middle of it?

“At that time the Canaanites were in the land. Then the Lord appeared to Abram, and said, ‘To your offspring I will give this land.’” – Genesis 12:6–7a
