Gospel of the Day (Luke 2,41-51)

Each year Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover,
and when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom.
After they had completed its days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it.
Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances,
but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him.
After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions,
and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers.
When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety."
And he said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?"
But they did not understand what he said to them.
He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart.

Many believe that devotion to the Sacred Heart originated with the mystical visions of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in the 17th century. However, the practice has its roots in the third century, when it was common for Christians to pause at 3 in the afternoon and meditate on the Five Wounds, particularly the piercing of Jesus’ side.

No one asks for pain.

No one enjoys heartbreak, disappointment, or struggle.

But sometimes the very things that break us
are the things that bring us closer to God.

The wounds teach us to depend on Him.
The trials teach us to trust Him.
The hard seasons remind us that we need Him.

What the enemy meant for harm,
God can use for growth.

So don't waste your pain.

On June 11, 2026, as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. bishops will consecrate the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Parishes around the country are encouraged to join the bishops in celebrating the consecration of our nation to the Sacred Heart.

The event will be livestreamed on the USCCB YouTube channel on June 11, 2026 at 4 p.m. ET from the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe in Orlando, Florida as a part of the bishops’ spring plenary assembly.

Sometimes I catch myself trying to control every little thing, only to end up overwhelmed. But when I slow down and spend time with God first, my heart feels more grounded. He gently reminds us what truly matters and helps us let go of the pressure to carry everything ourselves. 🦋
