As of May 22nd in Maine you can now ride rail bikes along the shores of Green Lake and Little Rocky Pond with Revolution Rail Co. in Dedham, ME! The Green Lake Run leaves from Jenkins Beach Station at 211 Green Lake Road and takes riders on a 7-mile round-trip route through one of the prettiest lake areas in Downeast Maine.
After a short safety briefing, you climb onto an all-electric assist rail bike, which means you can pedal as much as you want or let the motor help carry you along. The ride follows historic railroad tracks beside the clear water of Green Lake, a roughly 3,000-acre lake known for its wooded shoreline, rocky lake views, and quiet setting. From there, the route continues by Little Rocky Pond before reaching the turnaround point, where guides give riders a short break and share a bit of local history.
The whole trip lasts about two hours, with the soft sound of the rail bike, the water, the woods, and the breeze making it feel peaceful the whole way. Revolution Rail Co. calls this its newest Maine location, and Visit Maine notes that it is using the company’s first-ever fleet of electric-assist rail bikes. With 2-seat bikes at $100 and 4-seat bikes at $180, it’s a fun pick for couples, families, and groups looking for a different way to enjoy Maine lake country not far from Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park.
