Here at St. Luke’s Church in the Avenue we take Harm Reduction seriously. While this terminology usually refers to people who use drugs, we mean it for all people, especially those on the margins, in this case, LGBTQ+ young people. Suicidality largely does not occur because of the individuals identity rather because of the shame, stigma, and roadblocks to care our society wrongfully places before them in the name of “protection.” The Supreme Court’s ruling against medical care for trans minors along with the removal of LGBTQ specialists from the national su***de hotline will further the harm done to this already vulnerable community. In the parable of the good Samaritan Jesus compels us to care for our neighbors regardless of their story. Knowingly putting young people at greater risk of su***de is sinful at best while bordering on murder. If you know an LGBTQ young person in need of support please share these numbers for the Trevor Project and let them know St. Luke’s Church on the Avenue will always be a community of love and support for them.

We’re grateful for a beautiful and joy-filled Easter Service and church potluck this past Sunday. As a church, we’re holding onto the hope and reminder of rebirth amidst darkness and the power of love this Easter, and we hope you are able to find the love and community you seek this season. He is risen!
