On the mountain, Peter, John, and James saw something they would never forget.

Jesus was transfigured before them. His glory was revealed. Moses and Elijah appeared beside Him. And in that holy moment, Peter wanted to honor all three.

But then the Father spoke from the cloud:

“This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him.”

When the cloud lifted, Moses and Elijah were gone.

Jesus stood alone.

Luke wants us to see what the disciples had to learn: Jesus is not one voice among many. He is not one authority beside another. He is not Jesus plus our effort, Jesus plus our reputation, Jesus plus our comfort, or Jesus plus anything else.

Only Jesus saves.

Only Jesus satisfies.

Only Jesus accomplishes our salvation.

Join us this Sunday at Redemption City Church as we worship Christ and open God’s Word together.

One of our Japan Missions Team members shared an important observation: for many people in Japan, coming to faith in Christ can carry a deep personal cost.

Following Jesus may mean stepping away from a previous community, family expectations, familiar traditions, or a sense of belonging they have known for much of their lives. And because Christians make up such a small portion of the population, new believers may still experience loneliness even after entering the community of Christ.

This reminds us to pray not only for people in Japan to hear and receive the Gospel, but also for them to be strengthened, comforted, and surrounded by faithful brothers and sisters in Christ.

Please pray for the people of Japan today:

🙏 Pray that those who do not yet know Jesus would hear the good news of His life, death, and resurrection.

🙏 Pray that those counting the cost of following Christ would receive courage, endurance, and peace.

🙏 Pray that new believers would not feel alone, but would find deep fellowship in the family of God.

🙏 Pray that churches in Japan would be strengthened, multiplied, and marked by the love of Christ.

On the mountain in Luke 9:28-36, the veil is pulled back, and the disciples see Jesus in His glory. He is not merely a teacher or prophet. He is the Son of God!

That matters for us because we are often tempted to settle for a smaller view of Jesus. We want His help, but not His authority. We want His comfort, but not His command. Yet Luke 9 reminds us that Jesus is worthy of more than admiration. He is worthy of our surrender, our trust, and our worship.

This Sunday, join us as Pastor Muhtaseb opens Luke 9:28-36, and we behold the glory of Christ. In a world full of noise, confusion, and lesser voices, we need to see Jesus clearly and listen to Him again.

Come worship with us at 8:30, 10:00, or 11:30 AM!

Pastor Muhtaseb will be back in the pulpit this Sunday and teaching from Luke 9:28-36, where Jesus leads Peter, John, and James up the mountain and reveals His glory.

When he last preached in April, we followed Jesus into two unforgettable scenes...

In Luke 8, we saw Him asleep in the storm, perfectly at rest while the disciples panicked around Him. Then we watched Him step into a place of darkness, meet a man tormented and isolated, and speak with authority no evil could withstand.

From the storm, to the darkness, to the mountain, Luke shows us the same truth again and again: Jesus is the Son of God, the King with all authority, and the Savior we desperately need.

"Jesus takes your mess, and He turns it into a message..." Let that sink in.

Join us this Sunday at Redemption City Church at 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30 AM.

Our RCC Japan Missions Team is on the ground, walking through the city, observing daily life, and intentionally counting 500 faces!

Such a simple exercise, but a meaningful reminder: the need for the Gospel is not abstract. The people we long to serve are not faceless numbers. They are living, breathing image-bearers with names, families, burdens, questions, joys, and stories.

As team member Sam Kim (lower left in the photo) reflected, this moment helped make it more real that many people in Japan have not yet heard the Gospel and may have very little opportunity to hear the hope of Christ.

That realization moved our team to greater humility, compassion, and prayer. Jesus sees every face. He knows every story. And He sends His people to draw near with love, listen with care, and bear witness to the good news of His life, death, and resurrection.

We are grateful for how the Lord is already shaping the hearts of our team. In the days ahead, you can look forward to more reflections, observations, and ways to pray for Japan, for the people our team is encountering, and for the Gospel to take root and bear fruit.

We often want the life Jesus promises without the road Jesus walked.

We desire peace without surrender, joy without sacrifice, and glory without the cross. The world tells us comfort will satisfy us if we can secure enough of it. It tells us we can have what we want without denying ourselves.

But Jesus tells us the truth.

He does not call us to the cross to take life from us. He calls us there because He alone gives true life. Our strength cannot save us. Our comfort cannot sustain us. Our success cannot satisfy us. We need Jesus!

The way of the cross is hard, but it is full of purpose.

So often in scripture, Jesus asks a question that cuts through the noise and reaches straight into the heart.

In Luke 9:18-27, Jesus asks His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?”

It is not a small question - it is THE question. Because how we answer shapes everything: what we trust, how we suffer, what we surrender, and who we follow.

Though Peter declares that Jesus is the Christ, Jesus makes it clear that following Him is not about comfort, accolades, or building a life around ourselves. It is about denying ourselves, taking up our cross daily, and following the One who gave His life to save us.

This Sunday, we will gather around that call again, considering what it means to know Jesus truly and to follow Him faithfully as we listen to three of our RCC Institute graduates preach through these pivotal verses.

Join us this Sunday at Redemption City Church at 8:30, 10:00, or 11:30 AM.

Joe once felt the weight of guilt and shame...

Then God met him through the love of His people. Joe heard the good news of the cross, began following Jesus, and now walks in the hope and freedom of Christ, knowing his sins are forgiven and that he has been adopted as a son of God.

Today, Joe serves on our Hospitality Team, is part of the Spring Institute cohort, and is preparing to help with the Southside Community Church plant. That could be YOU!

Join us at RCC this Sunday at 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30 AM as we worship Jesus – the one who continues to save, welcome, strengthen, and send us!

What might happen if our church family stepped out together to serve Baltimore in the name of Jesus?

Join us for CityServe 2026, a powerful day of serving our city and loving our neighbors through practical acts of compassion. On Saturday, May 30, 2026, we will come together to meet needs, build relationships, and make the hope of Christ visible across Baltimore.

CityServe is more than a service opportunity. It is a chance to be the hands and feet of Jesus, to display and declare the Gospel, and to serve our city with humility, joy, and purpose.

This year, everyone who is able is encouraged to bring 5 to 10 non-perishable food items to support the University of Maryland (UMD) Food Pantry. To make things even more exciting, we will host a friendly donation competition between Gospel Communities, City Youth, and City Kids groups. When you arrive at CityServe, place your items at the sign for your group. If you are not yet connected to or involved in one of these groups, you can still be part of the fun by adding your donations to the general collection area! The group that brings the most items will win a pizza party, and the UMD Food Pantry Serve Team will count and sort all donations that morning!

Will you join us?

Sign up today to get involved! Deadline to RSVP is May 27: https://rccbaltimore.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/3548025

What does it look like to keep Jesus at the center of ministry – and life? This Sunday, we explored Luke 9 and the miracle of the loaves and fishes, discovering it's not just about provision, but about preparation for ministry.

The disciples returned from success, and Jesus did something surprising: He pulled them away to rest. Success in ministry can be just as dangerous as failure when it makes us forget we're serving in Jesus' power, not our own. We bring meager offerings; He makes the feast. We gather the people; He satisfies their hunger.

Whether you feel fruitful, weary, inadequate, stretched thin, or unsure of what you have to offer, the invitation is the same: come back to Jesus. He is the source, the center, and the strength of all we do.

Join us this Sunday at Redemption City Church as we worship Christ, open God’s Word, and learn to follow Him together!
