Last week, the Emmanuel Choir presented Johann Sebastian Bach’s complete choral motets at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Mt. Vernon, closing in on the final stretch of the season under the direction of Christian Lane.

As Washington Classical Review wrote, the ensemble “performed the complete motets of Johann Sebastian Bach Friday night… this penultimate performance of the Baltimore choir’s season took place in its base at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood,” with a program that truly took “complete” seriously, pairing the six core motets (BWV 225-230) with Ich lasse dich nicht (BWV 1164).

It was an evening that reflected both the scale and the challenge of Bach’s motets, an important moment in the choir’s season.
