The Emmanuel United Baptist Church history is still unfolding & the best is yet to come. The following account of the short history of Emmanuel begins after much prayer, the holy spirit led Rev. Carvin Cook to step out on faith to plant a new church. Therefore, on June 4, 1994, a small group met in the house of Rev. Cook to pray & to join in the planting of a new church. The saints testified to h
ow GOD had blessed them & given them the vision to join in the awesome task of organizing & planting a new church. The first meeting was truly filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. On October 2,1994, the Emmanuel United Baptist Church was formally organized as a new church. The initial worship services was held at the Garrison United Methodist Church, which served as the home of the new church for three years. At the organizing service, the church charter was signed by 37 saints & the resolution was approved to call Rev. Carvin Cook as the founding Pastor. Cook preached his first sermon to the new congregation entitled, “Needed: A New Testament Church” (Matthew 16:18). During the formative years at Garrison UM, the Sunday School. Deacon Board, Trustee Board, Voices of Emmanuel Choir, Youth Day Choir, Missionary Society & several other ministries were organized. At the end of the third year, the Lord made the church’s current location available to us. While obtaining the final approval from zoning, fire & housing boards, the Gwynn Falls Elementary School served as our temporary home. But Thanks Be Unto GOD, on October 11, 1998 the Emmanuel Church family met to dedicate its current location, 2300 Reisterstown Rd, to the Lord. Proceeding the service of dedication, the saints worked very hard to renovate the building. On September 19, 2004, the Deaconess board was established with Sisters Betty Frank, Betty Graham, Julia Johnson, Eunice Shannon, Sadie Vaughn, & Hattie Williams, dedicated as inaugural Deaconesses. After 19 years of service the Moses in Rev. Cook, saw that it was time to pass the mantle. Therefore, after 6 months of serving as Assistant Pastor, the saints unanimously voted for Rev. Ray to service as their next Pastor. Therefore, as We Are Looking Back & Moving Forward, we know We’ve come this far by Faith & it’s our Faith that will take us HIGHER!!!
