Catch up with our Canons!

Canon Chris had a very full weekend, including Diocesan Council Meeting, a Memorial Service, Presenting Ken Brown with his Cathedral Canon Emeritus in recognition of his decades of ministry AND presenting our 2026 Reparations Grant Recipients.

Here's what she had to say about the Diocesan work in reference to our Reparations Grants presentation: "Immensely proud of our Diocese and the committed work of our Reparations Committee. We can never truly repair the brokenness of the past, but we can tell the truth about it, lament the harm done, and choose a more faithful way forward. Real repair happens when we refuse to let history remain hidden and when we commit ourselves to justice, healing, and accountability. Holy and necessary work for us always."

Canon Kristofer made a visit out to All Saints, Frederick: "Canon Kristofer visited All Saints, Frederick on Sunday to support their ongoing commitment to leadership development among laity, religious communities, and clergy. All Saints is intentional about spiritual mentorship and fostering vocations, with individuals continually engaged in discernment and formation as they prepare to serve God and the Church. We give thanks for their faithful investment in raising up leaders for ministry."

Canon Kristin was at The Church of the Nativity and Holy Comforter this past Sunday: "This morning I had the pleasure of being back with the good folks of The Church of the Nativity and Holy Comforter to continue supporting them in their pastoral transition. It was a joy to serve alongside Pastor Don Burggraf. Everyone was excited to see Allen & Gwen Spicer who were visiting."

THANK YOU KEN!
The Cathedral's Trinity Sunday Evensong marked the retirement of Ken Brown on his 30th anniversary as Canon for Music and Worship. Former choir members and music directors from across the Diocese joined the Cathedral choir to sing Ken's handpicked favorite hymns and anthems with more than 80 voices. On behalf of Bishop Carrie, the Rev. Cn. Chris McCloud announced his appointment as Cathedral Canon Emeritus in recognition of his decades of ministry. We give thanks to God for Ken's 30 years of music making at the Cathedral and at Diocesan events!

CATCH UP WITH OUR CANONS!
Last week, Canon Chris was at the Baccalaureate Service for St Timothy's School, and Canon Randy was at the Sunday worship at Church of the Transfiguration. See what they had to say about their visits below.

Canon Chris: "I had the privilege of offering a few words of encouragement and blessing as the remarkable young women graduating from St Timothy's prepared to cross into the next chapter of their lives. It was a joyful celebration of faith, achievement and the promise of a future filled with purpose, courage and hope. Be audaciously salty and brilliantly bright young ladies!"

"Canon Randy spent Pentecost Sunday with the beautiful community at Church of the Transfiguration in Braddock Heights, discussing mission and the ways God continues to move through amazing leaders and faithful people willing to love and serve their neighbors. Thanks and God Bless, Canon Randy+"

COLLECT FOR TODAY, read by Nicholas, Diocesan Intern for Youth & Young Adults:

Mechthild of Magdeburg was one of the original medieval mystics in 1282, and the first to write in the German language. She is best known through her work, The Flowing Light of the Godhead, which consists of seven books written over a period of thirty years. These books alternate between passionate descriptions of her love for God and scathing denunciations of many clergy and of the laxity that she perceived in the official church of her time. Despite the medieval church criticizing her for her writing, Mechthild has become recognized as an important contributor to the work of the Church, especially due to her status as a woman in the medieval time.

Bishop Carrie visited Church of the Ascension (Scarborough) this past Sunday.

Read the excerpt below of her description of the day:

"Their fellowship time was amazing! (I'm now a fan of breakfast Stromboli). And I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with this small and mighty parish. What a wonderful, caring community of faith! They only have a priest with them about once a month, which works for this lay-led, clergy supported parish, BUT IF THERE'S A PRIEST WHO HAS SOME EXTRA TIME ON SUNDAY MORNING, OR SOMEONE WHO COULD LEAD A WEEKDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY, THEY'D LOVE IT. And you'll love them".
