We are moving to two sung Masses each Sunday, beginning this fall. (We have a happy problem: Sunday Masses during the academic year have been too full.)

In order to maintain our community identity and to facilitate CGS classes and youth groups during the academic year, Mass will be offered at both 8 AM and 11 AM each Sunday. We will host two coffee hours and adult formation.

The 11 AM Mass will be the same as our previous 10 AM Mass. The 8 AM Mass will still be a sung Mass with a small choir or cantor; it will be a bit shorter—no Asperges or sung Creed, for example—and will essentially have the same character as the 11 AM Mass.

This morning we received the joyful news that our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, will confer upon St. John Henry Newman, the title Doctor of the Church! With this, his feast day will be added on the General Roman Calendar of the universal Catholic Church.

St. John Henry Newman is part of our patrimony in the Ordinariate. With this title, Pope Leo is declaring that Newman‘s doctrinal contribution to the life of the Church—his particular way of expressing the faith in English—does not belong to one specific time or culture or linguistic context. He is, in the language of Anglicanorum coetibus, a treasure to be shared.

Saint John Henry Newman, Priest and Doctor of the Church, pray for us!

O God, who didst bestow upon thy Priest Saint John Henry Newman, the grace to follow thy kindly light and find peace in thy Church: graciously grant that, through his intercession and example, we may be led out of shadows and images into the fullness of thy truth; through Jesus Christ thy son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen
