Counseling Fundamentals - Having Intentional Conversations

The phrase "biblical counseling" often conjures up thoughts about formal, professional counseling. Only people with serious problems need counseling, and only people with extensive training can give counseling. But this is a fundamentally secular perspective. One author defined counseling as having intentionally helpful conversations. Defined that way, you are doing counseling all the time. Parents counsel their children. Adult children counsel their parents. Friends counsel one another. Spouses counsel each other.

The question is, is your counsel biblical? Are you able to provide the right kind of help to those in need? Do your words of comfort, encouragement, and advice reflect what Jesus would say to that person? That is what this class exists to help you learn. In addition to learning what the Bible teaches about its sufficiency, we will look at how to bring God's truth to bear with many common struggles: anger, depression, anxiety, sexual sin, marriage problems, parenting, and more.

This class is a fundamentals class, but it will go a long way to giving you a framework for how you can work through difficulties in your own soul, as well as how you can minister to others.
