To all Pastors of the Greater Maryland First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction:

Ordination Packets are due to the Ordination Board Secretary by April 30th. Please contact the OB Secretary at 443-900-2166, if you have any additional questions.

ORDINATION PROCEDURE

An ordination application packet is required for a candidate to be considered for ordination. Included in the application should be the following:
- Letter of recommendation by the Pastor,
- Copy of minister’s license,
- Copy of Ordination License and credentials from another COGIC Jurisdiction or reformation (For transferring ordained clergy only),
- Greater Maryland First Jurisdiction COGIC Ordination and Licensure Certificate, (If the certificate is pending the completion of classes and graduation for the current year, the Ordination Secretary will receive the certificate separate from the packet no later than two weeks after graduation.)
- Completed Criminal background check (Candidate must have the request for the background check submitted through the COGIC ARC system. https://www.cogicarc.com/login.cfm)
- COGIC Sexual Misconduct Training Certificate, (Candidate must take the training within the COGIC ARC system. https://www.cogicarc.com/login.cfm)
- GMD Ordination Candidate Application form.
- Ordination Screening Questionnaire
- GMD Study Guide & Exam Non-disclosure Agreement

Packet missing any of the aforementioned required items will be immediately rejected.

The candidates' application packet must be postmarked or received by the Ordination Board Secretary no later than April 30th, prior to the examination. The mailing address is as follows: Greater Maryland First Jurisdiction Ordination Board, 1 Locust Lane, Westminster, MD 21157. Application packets can also be e-mailed to [email protected] no later than the aforementioned deadline date.

A. The application packet will be validated by the Ordination Secretary.
B. The candidate for ordination will be issued an official invitation via e-mail, giving time, place and procedures for the examination.
C. Each pastor will be given the prerequisites and levels of expectation for the candidate for ordination.
D. The ordination candidate will be given an oral and written examination on all predetermined levels of expectations and may be asked to give demonstration and/or illustrations of certain procedures or ordinances.
E. The candidate will be required to undergo a criminal background check. The cost of the background check will be at the expense of the candidate. The cost of the background check will not be reimbursed to the candidate. (Candidates who currently employed in a position with the Federal, State or City Government that require a background check may submit the results of their most recent background investigation performed by their employer.)
F. The candidate who meets all levels of expectation will be recommended to the Jurisdictional Prelate for Ordination.

Prerequisites

The candidate must be licensed as a minister by the Church of God In Christ for at least 3 years prior to examination, must have completed all required courses at the C.H. Mason Bible College and/or at least equivalent course completion at another learning institution and receive the Greater Maryland First Jurisdiction COGIC Ordination and Licensure Certificate, COGIC Sexual Misconduct Training Certificate from the C.H. Mason Bible Institute, and must be in “good standing” with the Church of God in Christ, having honored his national and jurisdictional financial reports for 3 consecutive years prior to examination.

Any candidate who is ordained and transferring his license from another reformation must at least complete the COGIC Sexual Misconduct Training, COGIC Polity, and Ministerial Ethics courses and receive the Greater Maryland First Jurisdiction COGIC Ordination and Licensure Certificate from the C.H. Mason Bible Institute.

Any ordained Elder who is transferring from another COGIC Jurisdiction must be in “good standing” with the Church of God in Christ, having honored his national and jurisdictional financial reports for the current and previous year, and must at least complete the COGIC Polity course, COGIC Sexual Misconduct Training, and receive the Greater Maryland First Jurisdiction COGIC Ordination and Licensure Certificate from the C.H. Mason Bible Institute.

Background checks should be requested through the Church Of God In Christ ARC system, https://www.cogicarc.com/login.cfm. Background checks conducted by services not connected with the Office of the General Assembly or the Church Of God In Christ must be sent to National Security, attention Major Charles Moore and will take 3-5 days to process. Please send to Major Moore at cmoore@cogic with a copy to [email protected]. Once you have verification of receipt, please remove the background information from your computer. Without a positive reviewed background check, candidates cannot and will not be recommended by the Ordination board to be ordained and cannot be ordained by the Jurisdictional Bishop.
